The building housing the Faculty of Psychology at the University of Warsaw won the Grand Prix and an award in the ‘Public Architecture’ category at the 12th edition of the Mayor of Warsaw’s Architecture Award. During the gala at the Museum of Modern Art, other projects honoured included the Home for Young Mothers and Their Children, the Nowa Skra Centre, Żerański Park and the AFI Office House. The jury, chaired by Karolina Bober, selected the best projects from among nearly 100 entries, awarding 15 nominations and three special prizes. The residents also awarded their own prize.
The biggest winner turned out to be the new building of the Faculty of Psychology at the University of Warsaw – the building received three awards, including the Grand Prix and the accessibility award. The design by Projekt Praga focuses on an open, inclusive space featuring an atrium, terraces and a ground floor that functions as part of the campus.
In the ‘Public Space Design’ category, Żerański Park took the top prize, recognised for its ecological approach and use of ‘fourth nature’. Special awards for eco-friendly solutions were shared equally by the Family Activity Park in Wawer and the AFI Office House – the first building in the Towarowa 22 quarter, which also won the commercial architecture category.
In the residential category, the award went to the ‘Home for Young Mums and Their Children’ run by the ‘Po Drugie’ Foundation – a support centre for women at risk of homelessness, designed as a safe and nurturing environment.
In the ‘New Life for Buildings’ category, the Nowa Skra Centre triumphed; its modernisation has restored an important sports and leisure area for local residents. In the ‘Architectural Event’ category, two prizes were awarded: to the opera ‘The Best City in the World. An Opera about Warsaw’ and to the exhibition ‘Home Staging. Behind the Iron Gate’.
The residents’ poll was won by the new headquarters of CD Projekt Red – an innovative workspace with a distinctive wooden façade covered in greenery.
