25 Toruńska Street in Gdańsk – a comprehensive renovation of the building has brought out its former beauty

The tenement house located at Toruńska 25 in Gdańsk was built at the turn of the 19th and 20th centuries. It was built in the typical style of the city, which refers to Mannerism. The characteristic ornamental elements here are the so-called fittings. A twin building stood next to it. The renovated townhouse has now been converted into four council flats with floor areas ranging from 56.53 square metres to 94.85 square metres. Using the potential of the location and the possibilities of the building, the usable space on the ground floor was also adapted.

The renovation was carried out based on a programme of conservation works. It started in August 2022 and was completed in May 2024. The value of the investment amounted to PLN 5,149,629.81, with EU funding of around PLN 2 million.

The scope of work included, among other things, the conservation of the original door and window woodwork and the replacement of ahistoric sashes with new ones, the restoration of historic tiled cookers and stairs, and the restoration of stucco details on the facade of the building. In the staircase there is an original ceramic tile lamella, which has been restored and partially reconstructed to resemble the historic one, while the front elevation of the tenement reveals a painted advertising sign, which was restored and exposed during the renovation of the building. It is a unique souvenir of times gone by in Gdańsk.

In addition to what is visible to the naked eye, the refurbishment also included a number of internal modernisation works. Comprehensive insulation, structural, plumbing and finishing works were carried out in the building. The building also received a Building Management System installation, allowing energy and utility consumption to be monitored. In addition, the building also gained a photovoltaic installation.
