Classic paint or perhaps colourful wallpaper? This is a question that often arises when doing major renovations and finishing the walls in a flat. However, it is worth knowing that these are not the only possible solutions. An original alternative to traditional finishing methods is the use of three-dimensional panels. What are their characteristics, what kind of interiors do they suit and what effect can be achieved with them? Worth reading!
What are 3D panels?
3D panels are a finishing material which is gaining more and more supporters every year. It is used as a decorative covering for interior walls, for example in the living room, bedroom or corridor. Its hallmark is its convex texture, which, depending on the model, takes the shape of e.g. waves, bricks, fish scales or geometric shapes.
The panels are usually in the form of rectangular or square panels, which are laid both vertically and horizontally. The specific nature of the product means that the pattern flows from panel to panel and creates a uniform pattern giving a three-dimensional impression.
In terms of material, wall panels can be made from a variety of materials. Most commonly, MDF, wood, concrete, polyurethane or polystyrene are used to produce them. Upholstered, cork or openwork versions are also available.
Why should you consider installing three-dimensional panels?
The original look is an obvious, but not the only advantage of 3D wall panels. What else speaks for the application of a three-dimensional cladding?
- Low weight – the material is very light, and its weight usually does not exceed 2 kg/m2. This feature also makes the product suitable for ceiling installation.
- Versatility – 3D panels can be installed in any room, even in kitchens and bathrooms. However, it must be remembered that in an interior with high humidity, the polyurethane variant is the best solution. This is a lightweight, yet durable and waterproof material that will pass the test in harsh conditions. Glass or concrete planks will work just as well.
- Aesthetically, a three-dimensional decoration reminiscent of rough waves or sand drifts can become a leitmotif for the interior. Most panels can also be painted in any colour, creating additional design possibilities. In addition, the panels are ideal for decorating a section of a wardrobe or ceiling.
- Good insulation – the product acts as an effective acoustic and thermal insulator. In addition, it masks wall irregularities well.
- Easy application – the installation of the panels is not a complicated matter and does not require the help of a professional. All you need is a tape measure, knife, spirit level, glue and paint. The fact that the material is light and flexible also makes the work easier.
Where do 3D panels come in handy?
Three-dimensional decoration is extremely versatile and can be used in any interior. Here are some ideas for using 3D panels.
- Living room – 3D panels are available in many versions, so they can be easily matched to any arrangement. For a minimalist living room, fashionable lamellas will suit, in an industrial room, boards imitating concrete or brick will work, and in a modern interior, glass panels. There’s a lot to choose from!
- Bedroom – a three-dimensional decoration looks great above the headboard of the bed. An upholstered variant can be used for such decoration, which additionally increases the thermal insulation of the walls and improves the acoustics in the room.
- Children’s room – this room is usually filled with fairy tale motifs and cosy accessories. To complete the décor of a toddler or teenager’s corner, 3D panels with a fancy design can be used. Colourful acoustic foams in the shape of a hexagon or felted triangles in juicy colours, for example, are an interesting suggestion. The original decoration will not only make the room cosier, but also more soundproofed.
- Bathroom – when finishing the walls in the bathroom, remember to choose durable and water-resistant materials. Universal glass panels will certainly pass the test here. Concrete models are also suitable, but should be treated first.
- Kitchen – the principle for the selection of panels for this room is the same as for the bathroom. Concrete, cork or glass panels are the optimal choice in an interior exposed to splashing and moisture.
Wall with depth
Walls in domestic spaces do not have to be boring and monotonous. Instead of traditional paint or wallpaper, it is worth using 3D panels, which look great on both a small section and the entire wall surface.
The multitude of available materials and patterns means that panels can be used to decorate living rooms and rooms exposed to adverse conditions, such as kitchens and bathrooms. It is an inexpensive, easy to implement and ingenious way to decorate interiors in an original way. Just choose the right product. The effect is guaranteed!
