The architects at Dyatlov Studio, which specialises in 3D architectural visualisations and animations, have developed a highly innovative concept for a gated community with a circular layout. They have situated it amidst the waters of Lake Como in Italy, accessible by boat via a jetty. As the designers emphasise, the circular enclave of their design is merely a spatial and visual experiment, intended to explore the boundaries of visibility, privacy and the integration of the development with its natural surroundings.
A bold concept from Dyatlov Studio
The housing development is almost invisible from the lake shore, meaning it does not intrude on the panorama of the picturesque body of water surrounded by mountains. Only from higher vantage points does its geometric order reveal itself. There is an element of discovery and surprise for the observer here; after all, no one expects to see something like this in the middle of a lake. The residents of this housing estate, however, can enjoy complete privacy and isolation from the world around them. From the perspective of someone inside the complex, however, the space appears open, giving the impression of being in a natural garden.
A circular enclave on Lake Como
The estate takes the form of a wide ring with a recess, with a diameter estimated at several dozen metres. The inner courtyard is filled with a vast park featuring soft paths, groups of trees and a small, organically shaped water feature. This green oasis is surrounded by residential buildings arranged in a rhythmic sequence of segments. The houses form a compact yet stepped frontage. Terraced layouts, recesses and openings add depth to the structure and allow light to enter the interiors of the buildings.

Inspirations: La Muralla Roja
The concept by the Kazakh studio Dyatlov Studio is dominated by the intense red of the buildings’ façades, evoking associations with the Del Sol resort project by Bofill Taller de Arquitectura, inspired by the iconic La Muralla Roja from the 1960s. We wrote about it HERE. Its walls have a smooth, almost monolithic surface, punctuated by rectangular openings and green loggias. Gardens and private terraces appear on the roofs. The whole has an almost sculptural quality.
A circular enclave as an experiment
The design operates on the idea of a balance between the presence of the buildings and their visual withdrawal. Greenery plays a very important role here, filling the central part of the estate and permeating the homes via terraces and planters. As a result, the boundary between architecture and landscape becomes blurred. The concept functions as a study in spatial immersion, where the user remains literally immersed in nature, despite actually being in a clearly defined, man-made environment.
