Located in Almaty, this flat redefines the concept of an urban sanctuary. Within 66 square metres, designer Victoria Gorishnyak has created a space intended not so much for everyday life as for conscious tranquillity. The owner – a psychologist who normally lives in her family home outside the city – needed a place where she could stop for a while, read, work creatively and recharge her batteries amidst the hustle and bustle of the modern metropolis. This is how a private flat came into being, serving as an intimate urban retreat that combines elegance with subtle intimacy.
The design is underpinned by a contemporary-classical aesthetic, based on proportions, decorative wall panels and balanced architectural details. It is these elements that create a calm, harmonious backdrop for everyday activities, whilst lending the interior a timeless elegance. Despite its compact floor area, the flat remains open, airy and functional – with clearly defined zones for relaxation, work and socialising.
The project’s hallmark
The most distinctive element of the interior is a deep shade of teal, which runs throughout the entire space. It appears in the upholstery, textiles, bathroom fittings and decorative accents, creating a cohesive, striking colour scheme. Paired with warm neutrals, natural wood and subtle brass details, it creates an atmosphere of understated elegance. It is a colour that defines the character of the space and emphasises its individuality.
In the living area, the interplay of textures takes centre stage. Dark veneer contrasts with light-coloured kitchen units, whilst decorative wall panels add depth and architectural structure. Carefully selected paintings serve as focal points – they introduce an emotional touch that warms the space and gives it a personal dimension. It is an interior that invites you to pause and immerse yourself in its tranquil atmosphere.
A private retreat
In the bedroom, the designer has opted for softness and organic inspiration. Botanical motifs, natural materials and a blue-upholstered headboard create an intimate, soothing environment. The bathrooms follow the same aesthetic logic – featuring porcelain surfaces in shades of emerald, stone textures and wooden finishes that build a cohesive, elegant visual language.
The result of Victoria Gorishnyak’s work is an interior that functions as a contemporary retreat for reflection – a place of renewal, inspiration and creative focus. It is not merely a city flat, but a private space allowing the owner a moment’s respite in the country’s rapidly developing former capital.
