On the outskirts of Wrocław, an interior measuring 112 square metres has been created, designed by the Na Antresoli studio for a young married couple who work remotely. The home has been furnished in the mid-century modern style, with an emphasis on warm colours, natural materials and solutions tailored to everyday needs. A functional kitchen and a carefully designed living area played a major role in the concept.
A home in the mid-century modern style
The project was created for a young married couple with a dog, who knew exactly what atmosphere they wanted to create in their home from the very beginning. The owners dreamt of a cosy interior inspired by mid-20th-century design, full of natural materials and striking details. As they both work from home, every part of the space was designed to support their daily activities there for many hours at a time. The designers from the Na Antresoli studio opted for a calm palette of buttery shades, vanilla and beiges, complemented by greenery, wood and Taj Mahal stone. The whole look was enhanced by bespoke colours from the Farrow & Ball palette and the soft, rounded forms of the furniture and built-in units.
A kitchen and living room with ideas for a small space
The greatest attention was paid to the living area. The limited space required a non-standard approach, particularly when organising the living room. The lack of suitable space for a television led the designers to use a concealed screen with a projector. This idea suited the habits of the household members, who rarely watch television on a daily basis but enjoy organising evening film screenings. Lightweight lamps suspended above the table are mounted on special hooks, so that they can be easily moved aside to reveal the screen when needed. Additional storage space is provided by an openwork bookcase with drawers, which separates the staircase from the living room.
Equally important was the kitchen, designed with the owners’ passion for cooking in mind. It features a wide, 70-centimetre built-in fridge and a hob with an integrated extractor hood that vents steam outside the building. Cooking at the island can therefore take place without a large unit hanging over the worktop, which leaves an unobstructed view of the rest of the room.
Fittings from Polish and Scandinavian brands
The interior is dominated by wood, oak veneer, Taj Mahal stone and textured wallpaper. The design is complemented by furniture and accessories selected from Polish and Scandinavian manufacturers. Featured here are the Hug Me sofa by Noti, the noo.ma coffee table, the Selfia table and the Tamo coat rack. The dining area is furnished with GUBI Beetle chairs, whilst the lighting comprises Flowerpot models by &Tradition, New Works and Marseille wall lights by Nemo, an Audo Copenhagen ceiling light and a Lyfa Memoir lamp. Technical lighting is provided by the Polish brands Labra and Chors. The whole creates a calm, warm atmosphere, dominated by refined details and high-quality materials.
An interior in the spirit of mid-century modern
The project required a high degree of precision from the contractors. The most time-consuming part was the preparation of the bespoke joinery, featuring numerous rounded edges, stainless steel elements, made-to-measure wooden handles and fronts in individually selected Farrow & Ball colours. Despite the lengthy installation process, the clients remained true to the original concept, meaning the interior was completed almost exactly as per the initial design. The ground floor comprises a bathroom with a shower, a study, a living area and a boiler room. The first floor, in turn, houses a bedroom with a separate walk-in wardrobe, two guest bedrooms and a second bathroom. This layout suits the residents’ lifestyle well, providing a comfortable space for work, rest and spending time together.

About the studio:
The Na Antresoli studio has been operating in Wrocław since 2014 and specialises in comprehensive interior design for flats and houses. The studio is run by architects Natalia Jankowiak and Kamila Piętka-Rakowiecka, graduates of the Faculty of Architecture at Wrocław University of Technology. Project manager Ewa Wlezień oversees the entire process. In their projects, the team focuses on functional layouts, natural materials and a personalised approach to each project. Their aesthetic draws inspiration from Danish design, modernism, the Bauhaus and timeless design, whilst the design process covers every stage – from concept and documentation through to author supervision and turnkey implementation.
