A dental clinic in Gdańsk designed by MAKA STUDIO

The design of the dental clinic in Gdańsk by MAKA STUDIO demonstrates just how far contemporary thinking about medical spaces can go when patient comfort and interior quality are made a priority. The architects deliberately moved away from cold, laboratory-like associations, creating a space that is more reminiscent of a luxury wellness area than a traditional treatment room. They drew inspiration from Tulum in Mexico – its naturalness, soft forms and relaxed atmosphere, which the clients wanted to bring to the urban fabric of Gdańsk.

The interior was designed using a colour palette inspired by the Mexican landscape. Warm beiges, off-white, sandy tones and natural wood dominate. Monochromaticity does not mean monotony here – the architects have employed varied textures, combining textured plaster with soft bouclé fabrics. This gives the space depth and visual softness, and from the very first moment, the patient experiences an atmosphere of calm.

Organic lines

The design is based on the principles of biophilic design. Sharp edges have been avoided, replaced by rounded forms and flowing lines that guide the user through successive zones. Ceiling reliefs and light tubes on the walls evoke associations with wind-swept dunes or ocean waves. A living tree has been placed at the centre of the waiting area, set within a sculptural seating island. This element serves not only as a visual focal point but also as a symbolic link between the interior and the natural world.

The lighting serves an architectural purpose, not merely a functional one. Irregular LED lines integrated into the ceiling and walls create a dynamic setting that responds to the time of day. They emphasise the three-dimensionality of the surfaces, bring out subtle textures and enhance the sensation of being immersed in a space designed to promote tranquillity.

Materials for refinement

The wood used in the built-in furniture and the stone patterns on the floors and reception desk introduce a natural elegance. These materials ground the composition, lending it durability and a timeless character. Combined with organic forms, they create a coherent, harmonious whole.

The clinic designed by MAKA STUDIO proves that medicine can thrive in an environment conducive to relaxation. It is a space that does not create distance, but invites one to rest. Patients feel cared for even before their appointment begins, and the interior acts as a subtle filter that reduces tension. Boho-luxury aesthetics, organic forms and the presence of nature create a space that redefines standards in the design of medical facilities.
