A house has been built in Liszki, near Kraków, for a young couple with two daughters and a cat. The interior design, by the Kontraforma studio, aimed to create a clear division of functions and a bold yet balanced colour scheme. The architects also ensured that the house could easily cope with being lived in by a large family.
A family home near Kraków
The designers defined the residents’ needs and the aesthetic direction right from the concept stage. To this end, they opted for a subdued colour palette, complemented by touches of green and peach. This combination helps maintain visual order even amidst a large number of everyday objects. The interior forms a harmonious whole, yet remains resilient to any disruption of this order – which is no mean feat with small children. Identical colours appear in different rooms, giving the house a very visually cohesive feel.
A kitchen and living room full of geometry
The kitchen units have a simple, geometric form. A detail that sets this room apart are the peach-coloured handles. The lighting has been chosen to highlight functional areas and introduce a soft glow. The kitchen floor contrasts sharply with the furniture, creating an interesting mosaic. The TV has been concealed within the built-in units so that it does not dominate the interior. Shades of green and peach are repeated in the furniture and accessories. The design is complemented by smooth fronts and a limited number of finishing materials.

A hidden space for cat litter trays
A closed-off space for cat litter trays has been created under the stairs. The built-in furniture has been designed with storage and easy tidying in mind. This is very important for a large family. The arrangement of individual items and fittings has been tailored to the residents’ daily routines, with a view to making the home more user-friendly. The design also includes space for storing toys and household appliances.
A house near Kraków and its bathrooms
A major advantage of the house is undoubtedly the two bathrooms. The one on the ground floor has a calm, subdued feel. It is dominated by light surfaces and touches of green. The upstairs bathroom, on the other hand, was designed with children in mind. Here, the designers have proposed cream-coloured walls, fish-patterned wallpaper and a colourful floor inspired by shades of strawberry. The space is more relaxed and tailored to younger users.
