A family of four lives here. A flat in Warsaw

This 122-square-metre flatin Warsaw’s Ochota district, designed by the architects at RUUM studio, was conceived as a space where colour, texture and form come together to create a welcoming living environment. A family of four lives here, and they wanted their home to be original, boldly decorated and distinguished by its own aesthetic language. The designers treated these expectations as a starting point for creating a layout based on contrasts, fluid transitions and a consistently developed colour palette.

Even in the entrance area, it is clear that this flat is not afraid of bold accents. The blue-and-cherry-coloured built-in wardrobes, paired with a large, almost two-metre-wide, semi-circular mirror, create the first, very deliberate splash of colour. This is not only a practical solution but also a preview of the wider composition – splashes of colour lead through the subsequent rooms, organising the space and emphasising the functions of the individual zones.

The most dynamic part of the flat is the living area. The kitchen is dominated by a muted sea green paired with dusty pink, and both shades blend harmoniously with the blues present in the hallway and living room. The colours are not merely an accessory here – they form the structure that ties the whole together. This impression is enhanced by the three-dimensional forms of the ceilings and the soft, organic lines of the furniture. The shape of the corner sofa, the table and the coffee tables has been designed to introduce fluidity and softness, balancing the intensity of the colours.

One of the most distinctive features of the living room is the three-metre-high wall of grooved glass separating the study. The space remains visually open, yet ensures privacy whilst working. This solution combines visual impact with functionality, whilst fitting seamlessly into the overall concept of the flat – nothing here is left to chance; every material has its role to play.

In contrast to the energetic living area, the master bedroom has been designed as a haven of calm. It is dominated by beiges, soft fabrics and rounded forms, which introduce a sense of balance following the colour-intensive communal spaces. It is a place where the pace clearly slows down, and the atmosphere is conducive to relaxation.

The entire project is based on a conscious balance between expression and tranquillity. The architects at RUUM studio have created an interior that is bold, cohesive and tailored to the residents’ lifestyle. Colour, light and form work together here to create an apartment with a strong character, yet one that is friendly and comfortable for everyday living.
