A flat full of light and tranquillity. We are looking forward to seeing you in Gdansk!

A flat full of light and peace. This is how one can describe this 60-square-metre interior located in one of the most beautiful and green districts of Gdańsk, near the historic architecture of Oliwa and the forests of the Tricity Landscape Park. The intimate housing estate, surrounded by greenery, is far away from the hustle and bustle of the city.

The interior, designed by Hanna Brzozowska of the Inbalance studio, is a space for a young couple and their four-legged friend. The owners wanted a place that was functional, aesthetically pleasing and full of visual freedom – a space that would become personal over time. It was crucial to use durable, natural materials and timeless solutions that would ensure the interior’s longevity, while maintaining a modern and unconventional feel with an artistic twist.

The interior aesthetic combines vintage influences with Copenhagen elegance and casualness. Simple, custom-designed joinery harmoniously blends with designer accessories and objects of sentimental value. Natural wood, muted colours with stronger accents of colour and refined details create a backdrop for everyday living. It is a space that is well thought-out but flexible – refined in detail, yet natural and unstylised.

The owners love to cook, so the kitchen and dining area became a key focus of the design. The lower kitchen cabinetry in a subtle shade of pink warms the interior, while the white cabinets and wooden shelves add lightness. The veneered section of the kitchen, concealing the fridge and appliances, provides a distinctive element and a warm backdrop for the dining area. Here, in turn, a round vintage table from the 1960s reigns supreme, surrounded by a variety of chairs. Above it hangs the iconic Louis Poulsen lamp.

The living room is a space full of light and calm. The lounge furniture and coffee tables create a cosy arrangement, while the shelf above the sofa displays books and carefully selected accessories. Opposite is an oak bookcase where the owners store the turntable and the rest of their library. A key element of the interior is the large balcony window overlooking the forest – it gives the space a unique harmony, connecting it to the surrounding nature.

In the hallway, the floor is a distinctive accent – large-format tiles arranged in a chessboard pattern give the interior a unique and original character. This is complemented by a veneered wall console and a mirror in a thin red frame. From here we move on to the owners’ bathroom, the style of which is in keeping with the rest of the flat. The wooden fittings over the toilet, the irregular texture of the micro-cemented walls and the coral-coloured washbasin cabinet introduce a warm, elegant atmosphere. An additional interesting accent in this space is the terrazzo countertop and the original blue tiles on the floor, which are arranged in a geometric pattern.

The bedroom is a harmonious space in which a variety of forms and materials create a coherent whole. A cream-coloured wardrobe and a bed with a decorative headrest form the base of the interior, while the juxtaposition of furniture – a red bedside table on one side and a steel and glass cabinet on the other – gives it an eclectic feel. An important element is the lamps, which create atmospheric lighting. In the corner, there is room for a subtle dressing table with a rattan chair, and on the wall opposite the bed hangs a mirror, reflecting the light and a beautiful veneered headrest. This is complemented by a large window with a view of the forest, which – as in the living room – connects the interior with nature.
