In a 59-metre flat in Warsaw’s Mokotów district, Paulina Drzas from the INNT Interior Design studio has created a space that combines simplicity with a sense of balanced cosiness. The design was created in a minimalist style with a young client in mind, and is underpinned by a consistent palette of materials, calm forms and a focus on visual order.
The flat underwent a thorough refurbishment, though without altering its functional layout. Retaining the original room layout allowed the focus to be placed on the quality of the finishes and the clarity of the composition. The architect opted for solutions that organise the space – concealed doors, subtle wall decorations and carefully selected lighting. Each element is understated in form, yet together they create a coherent, distinctive whole.
The tranquillity of materials
The flat’s neutral base is built on muted colours and natural textures. These create a sense of order, which was key to the entire concept. In the living room, however, there is a stronger accent – a striking sofa, which deliberately breaks up the calm colour scheme. Its form and colour add energy to the interior without disrupting the minimalist character of the design.
In the dining area, the lamp suspended above the table catches the eye. Its presence is no accident – it emphasises the function of this zone and introduces a subtle focal point that organises the space without being overly decorative.
Lighting for atmosphere
Lighting plays a key role in the design. It has been chosen to shape the interior and enhance its tranquil character. Soft, diffused light creates a calming atmosphere, whilst spotlights accentuate selected areas of the flat. As a result, the space remains minimalist but not cold – the light adds softness and a homely warmth.
Minimalism with character
Although the design is based on simplicity, it is by no means devoid of personality. Natural accents, a striking sofa and carefully selected lighting create an interior that is both orderly and cosy. A consistent palette of materials ties the whole design together, whilst subtle details lend it a sense of lightness. This is a flat where minimalism serves as a backdrop for everyday comfort and the client’s individual needs.
