A flat with a tiled cooker. We take a look inside in Bielsko-Biała.

In the heart of Bielsko-Biała, in a tenement from the interwar period, an interior was created that combines modernity with respect for the history of the place. The author of this metamorphosis is Aleksandra Paneth, interior designer and founder of Soft Studio. During the comprehensive redevelopment, she made sure to preserve the spirit of the building and its architectural details – making stylistic reference to the original staircase, among other things. Thanks to windows facing three sides of the world, the space is filled with natural light, which further enhances the feeling of spaciousness.

New functionality – ergonomics in the foreground

During the renovation, the layout of the flat was completely reorganised. The previously impractical layout with a narrow corridor, small bathroom and pass-through rooms gave way to a well-thought-out arrangement. The flat now offers a spacious hallway with a large mirror and bookcase, a comfortable bedroom with a private wardrobe, a spacious bathroom with a bathtub, a semi-circular shower cubicle and a discreetly hidden washing machine, and a bright living room connected to the kitchen in the form of an annex. An additional room, separated by a maroon-framed glazing, serves as a multifunctional room – it can be used as a study, dining room, children’s or guest room. At the same time, it lets light into the kitchen area of the interior.

Living with a tiled cooker – a detail that defines the character of the interior

In the centre of the living room, the attention is drawn to the original pistachio-coloured tiled cooker, which was decided to be preserved as an important design element. This unique detail not only emphasises the historical roots of the space, but also introduces a unique atmosphere that distinguishes the flat from contemporary interiors.

Natural materials and vintage-inspired style

The design is based on authentic finishing materials. The floors are laid with classic wooden parquet, the kitchen and bathroom worktops are made of Viscount White granite, and the furniture has simple forms and a distinctly wooden character. The colour scheme of the interiors was kept in a subdued earthy palette, complemented by subtle colour accents – including in the maroon glazing or detailing of the finishes.

Practical solutions hidden in an elegant form

The functionality of this interior goes hand in hand with aesthetics. The tall built-ins and built-in wardrobes concealed in the walls keep the flat tidy and minimalist. The unusual arrangement of the windows in the bedroom is a reminder of the former division into three separate rooms – but today their presence gives the interior an individual touch.

Bathroom in the spirit of modernism

The bathing area has been carefully refined – tiles from Maja Ganszyniec’s ‘Modernism’ collection for Paradyż harmonise with the terrazzo and the semi-circular shower cubicle with integrated LED lighting. Hidden fixtures and fittings ensure aesthetics while not losing functionality. The whole is complemented by an upgraded heating system that guarantees year-round comfort.
