The house for motoring fans was designed by Jan Sekuła, who runs the Zarysy studio. The building has 194 square metres, was designed in Łomianki, and its important part is a special garage where a car or a motorbike can be displayed in a sophisticated arrangement.
When designing the interior of the house, the architect reflected his characteristic style. We have shown the projects of the Zarysy studio before; the architect has developed his original ‘line’, which can also be seen in the design of the house in Łomianki.
The house was designed for a couple. The investor has Italian roots, so the interior features elements that gently allude to Italian style. Examples include the graphic artwork decorating the living room, the medieval map of Italy in the upstairs hall, or the neon ‘pizza’ sign in the bedroom.
In order to adapt the space to the needs of the residents, the architect made several changes to the layout. The hallway was enlarged to become a spacious, welcoming room. The shape of the pantry adjacent to the kitchen, the toilet and the study were changed, making the hallway larger and giving the opportunity for a more interesting arrangement of these rooms. The layout of the living area was also redesigned, making it possible to insert a large, dark blue island. These changes were made before construction of the building began.
When asked which aspect was the biggest challenge, Jan Sekuła points to the atmosphere of the interior. The designer had to combine all the elements, adjust the materials, plan the details of the furniture and finishes so that they formed a coherent whole.
The aesthetic effect is influenced by the omnipresent wood. It is mainly American walnut, which was combined with a floor resembling coral stone. The stone gives the interior a sense of freshness and unique texture and provides a visual contrast to the dark furnishings.
