The semi-detached house is located in Lipkow near Warsaw. One of the segments is inhabited by a family of four, who opted for a subdued design that offers the opportunity for comfortable relaxation. Denst Pracownia Projektowa was invited to design the space.
Designing living spaces is the art of combining functionality with aesthetics. A well-thought-out layout generates not only practical zones for everyday life, but also creates an atmosphere of warmth and an unusual climate. Every detail, from the choice of colour palette to the selection of materials to the unique accessories, has its significance here, and the whole builds a coherent story of a home that is both a refuge and a place for personal expression.
The interior design by Katarzyna Denst and Agata Surma is distinguished by a modern approach in which a cross-section of tradition meets the latest design trends. A subdued colour scheme emphasises the architectural qualities of the space – bright, neutral colours are combined with delicate colour accents to introduce a sense of balance. This composition encourages relaxation and stimulates the residents’ creativity, offering them a space conducive to both daily tasks and moments of reflection.
Practical functional layout
The layout of the rooms is based on the principle of openness, where the boundaries between communal areas and less formal spaces are blurred, creating a natural flow of light. Thoughtful zoning, emphasised by subtle architectural solutions, allows each space to be used efficiently. In this way, the house becomes dynamic and at the same time becomes a place where every corner responds to the specific needs of its inhabitants.
In total, this 120sqm space has three floors. The ground floor consists of a vestibule, toilet, corridor, living room, kitchen, dining room, utility room and garage. This is one large communal area where the household members spend most of their free time. There is also a study for work on the ground floor. Each of these rooms is a feast of colours and shapes but consistent enough with the whole that it is nice to discover each successive room.
A wooden staircase, protected by a steel railing with expanded metal painted in yellow, leads to the first floor. Here we find the children’s rooms and the parents’ bedroom, as well as two bathrooms. One of them can only be accessed through the parents’ bedroom.
An additional space is the 50 sq m attic, where a studio has been created. This is where the owner paints her paintings and stores items that the household members use occasionally.
Natural materials
An extremely important aspect of the project is the attention to materials and finishing details. Natural materials such as wood, stone and fine fabrics give the interior a unique character, combining the warmth of tradition with modern minimalism. As a result, the project not only tempts with its pleasing aesthetics, but also resists the vicissitudes of everyday use.
The interior of the house is also a personal space, where the finest details reflect the individuality of its inhabitants. Artisanal accessories, unique decorative elements and carefully selected accessories create a unique story that can be rediscovered every day.
