Its appearance is reminiscent of classic modernist villas. The white house with swimming pool was designed by architects from the Slovak studio BEEF ARCHITEKTI. The building is located in the country’s capital Bratislava.
In designing the building, the architects used elements known from modernism. One example is the ‘gills’, i.e. the diagonally set walls, which create an attractive play of light and shadow. Another artistic intervention was the design of the inner garden with its large glazed areas, which became a green decoration to accompany the householders throughout the year.
The house with the pool is 316 square metres in size. It was built on a rather difficult plot of land on the outskirts of Bratislava. In order to ensure the residents’ sense of privacy and protect them from the sight of neighbouring developments, they designed the house with screens that serve as a visual partition. The angled walls form a kind of fence from the neighbouring buildings and at the same time provide a view of the garden for those inside.
The living area occupies most of the building. The centrally designed atrium is the green heart of the house and the dense vegetation resembles a jungle, around which the main living functions are designed. The living area consists of a living room connected to the kitchen and a dining area. From this space, one can easily access the garden. While preparing meals in the kitchen, one can glimpse the growing tall pine trees in the distance. Views of the garden are also possible from the bedrooms located at the sides of the house.
The house has the form of a simple pavilion. The roof, which extends from the body of the house, creates a canopy that protects the interior from overheating in the summer. At the same time, in winter, when the sun is lower, it ensures a free flow of light into the interior. The architects admit that the terrace designed in this way has become a favourite place for a morning cup of coffee.
The house also has a small space on the first floor. The architects designed a spa area there, which offers views of Pajštún Castle.
