After nearly two years of work, the town has regained one of its most important pieces of infrastructure. The refurbished railway station on Kolejowa Street in Murowana Goślina has reopened to residents and travellers, combining its restored historic appearance with new community facilities designed to serve the local community for decades to come.
The station’s regeneration has restored its appearance, inspired by the original early 20th-century architecture. The two-storey building, with its red-brick façade and gabled roof, echoes the structure built between 1901 and 1905, when Murowana Goślina gained its first rail link to Poznań. The station of that era, visible in surviving postcards and photographs, played a significant role in the town’s development, becoming one of the region’s key transport hubs.
In January 1945, during the fierce fighting for Poznań, the area around Murowana Goślina became one of the key points in the operation aimed at securing a crossing over the Warta River at Bolechów. An attempt to establish a bridgehead north of the city ended in a fierce clash, in which the 11th Guards Corps was halted in the Murowana Goślina area. The consequences of these actions were catastrophic for the local infrastructure – the station building went up in flames and was almost completely destroyed. After the war, the building was rebuilt using the outline of the original structure, but it was given a simplified, unadorned form, designed solely for transport purposes.
New community functions
Today’s redevelopment has given the building a much broader character. In addition to a modern waiting area for travellers, the building houses a Social Welfare Centre, and space has also been set aside for non-governmental organisations and local associations. Among other things, the building is home to a Senior Citizens’ Club, creating a space for socialising, activities and support for various groups of residents. Mayor Justyna Radomska emphasised that the regeneration was one of her priorities following the 2023 elections, and that rail links – particularly with Poznań – remain one of the municipality’s greatest assets.

The launch of a new phase
An application for funding for the redevelopment was submitted on 7 August 2023, and 6.22 mln zł was secured from the Government’s ‘Polski Ład’ Fund to carry out the project. Thanks to these funds, it was possible to restore the building’s historic form and fully adapt it to modern accessibility standards – including the needs of older people and people with disabilities.
