Just next to the Royal Baths in Warsaw, an interior has been created that has the atmosphere of a park. The 101 sq m flat is located in an elegant apartment building. Filip Domagała of DOMagała Design has created a space here where the peace and tranquillity of the green surroundings harmonises with the arrangement. The architect says that he planned the flat by the Lazienki Park from the beginning as a place that gives a sense of respite.
The resident and her needs
The property belongs to a woman who runs a cosmetics company. She often works from home, so it was particularly important to choose comfortable chairs for hours of work at the kitchen table. The owner brought energy, attentiveness and great commitment to the design process. During a joint search for furniture, she found, among other things, the Fornasetti plates that decorate the hall. Her decisions influenced the character of the interior and her open attitude made the project develop freely.
The flat at Łazienki – a space after a major makeover
The original layout of the flat was redesigned to suit one person. Two zones were created here. In the private part, a bedroom, a dressing room and a bathroom were planned. The change in layout required the removal of many walls, which opened up the interior and allowed it to have a rhythm in keeping with the owner’s lifestyle. The result is a space that is not haphazard, but tailored to everyday functioning. The well-thought-out division ensured freedom of movement and comfort in the individual rooms.

Kitchen and living room in grey
In the living area, the kitchen merges with the living room, creating a calm, orderly frame. A large island set against a built-in with stoneware in a pattern reminiscent of Ceppo di Gre has become the focal point of the cooking area. All carpentry was created to order. The built-in has a considerable capacity, which makes it easy to keep things tidy. The dining table was chosen to harmonise with the proportions of the island. The owner is concerned with minimalism on the tabletops, which enhances the impression of clarity. In the lounge area, furniture was found to create an elegant set. The Meridiani sofa was reused after changing the fabric, while the Poltrona Frau armchair, Tamo table and Artemide Tolomeo lamp were placed next to it. On the wall hangs a painting by Filip Domagała and a photograph by Szymon Brodziak. The whole is a composition that acts as a peaceful private gallery.
Materials full of elegance
The interior is based on stoneware, oak wood, lacquered MDF, brushed steel and high-quality fabrics. Hakwood plank flooring adds a soft touch to the flat. The selection of materials was a process that paid attention to textures, shades and the way they combine when exposed to light. The bedroom gains depth from the three-dimensional textured panel and the bathroom from the PVD taps and veneer. Glass elements also appear in the rooms. The architect emphasises that he wanted a material that introduces a sense of elegance without being overly decorative.

Why grey?
The leading colour became the joint choice of the designer and the owner. “Grey brings order and calm. It is a colour I identify with a lot” – emphasises Filip Domagała. The neutral tones were warmed up with wood, soft fabrics and carefully designed light. This combination creates an atmosphere that connotes balance and subtle elegance. The grey in this version acquires a dimension of informal cosiness, giving the entire interior a uniquely soothing character.
Flat by the Lazienki Park in Warsaw
The designer admits that this realisation turned out to be exceptional also thanks to the cooperation with the owner. It allowed him to create an interior in which consistency, quality and subtlety produce a calming effect. Working on the flat reinforced his belief in the value of a partnership based on trust. The successful collaboration has resulted in a place that reflects both the mature design decisions and the personal needs of its user.
