A meadow inspired by the paintings of Chełmoński will blossom in front of the National Museum in Poznań

In spring, an unusual meadow of flowers will appear in front of the National Museum in Poznań, inspired by the work of Józef Chełmoński – one of the most important Polish realist painters. The installation will be created as part of an action accompanying a major exhibition of his works, to be held at the turn of spring and summer this year at the Poznan branch of the National Museum. This unique combination of art and nature will allow lovers of Chełmoński’s paintings to literally “enter” the atmosphere from his paintings, enjoying the beauty of flowers and nature, which were an integral part of the painter’s work.

Art in the urban space

In March, the exhibition “Józef Chełmoński (1849-1914)” will open, bringing together around 150 works by the artist, including masterpieces such as “Babie lato”, “Bociany”, “Czwórka” and “Karnawał w Polsce”. The event will be accompanied by a number of initiatives, and one of the first to be announced is a flower meadow inspired by landscapes painted by Chełmoński. As announced by the Ministry of Culture and National Heritage, the space in front of the museum will be transformed into a colourful garden full of flowers familiar from the artist’s paintings. These will include cornflowers, poppies, clovers, sunflowers and verticas, which will recreate the atmosphere from his canvases.
