The 120 square metre flat in Powiśle, Warsaw, was designed by architects from the RES Design studio. The starting point was a light, calm base, warm whites and natural materials, which create a modern interior with a subtle touch of minimalism. The whole is cohesive, functional and refined down to the last detail – from the soft geometry of the built-in units to carefully selected design icons, such as Eero Saarinen’s Tulip table and pieces from Vitra and Gubi.
The rounded edges found in the corners of the walls, built-in units and lighting give the space a gentle, welcoming character. This is a deliberate design choice that balances the modern aesthetic and creates a sense of fluidity. As a result, the interior is not only elegant but also serene and comfortable for everyday use.
Soft geometry
The centrepiece of the flat is the spacious living room with over five metres of built-in furniture. Its standout feature is a veneered recess that wraps round the side wall, organising the space and framing the corner sofa designed by Krystian Kowalski. Next to it stands a Pacha armchair by Gubi and a Vitra Noguchi coffee table with a glass top – the combination of design classics and bespoke joinery creates an atmosphere of elegance and ease.
A living room featuring design icons
Opposite the sofa stands a Tulip table, behind which lies a cinema area featuring an acoustic wall in the form of a felt triptych. A recessed screen, over three metres wide, is concealed in the ceiling, allowing the living room to serve as a bright living space during the day and transform into an intimate home cinema in the evening.
The kitchen has been designated as a separate room, yet remains conveniently accessible from both the living room and the entrance hall. White cabinet fronts, a large window and a light colour scheme create a sense of airiness, whilst the wooden worktop adds warmth to the space and introduces a natural touch to the modern fitted units.
A hall with a hidden function
The hall has been designed as a bright, minimalist space with a wooden recess incorporating a seat, a wardrobe and a door leading to the walk-in wardrobe with a laundry area. Behind the veneered doors lies a practical storage area, along with a column housing a washing machine and tumble dryer, a water treatment unit and a metal clothes dryer that lowers from the ceiling – solutions that enhance the flat’s functionality without compromising its aesthetics.
Bedroom with walk-in wardrobe
In the parents’ bedroom, the architects designed a walk-through wardrobe situated in the corridor leading to the sleeping area. The walls flanking the bed are covered with softly textured wallpaper, and above the upholstered headboard there is a wooden recess with linear lighting. This horizontal feature organises the space and echoes the design elements used in the living room.
Bathrooms and bedrooms
Both bathrooms share the theme of stone washbasins and a skylight, the shape of which is echoed on the ceiling. Light grey tiles provide a neutral backdrop for the fittings and veneered furniture. The children’s room maintains the consistent style of the entire flat, whilst the study near the entrance area serves as a practical addition to the apartment.
The electrical installation has been supplemented with a Plejd control system and DALI lighting, which allow for the programming of lighting scenes and roller blind schedules. These solutions support the human circadian rhythm whilst enhancing the comfort of living in the flat.
