A mural on a staircase in the centre of Warsaw. The artwork makes you think about obesity

A unique piece of street art has appeared in the heart of Warsaw, which not only adorns the urban space, but also prompts discussions about health. A mural was created on the stairs in front of the entrance to Złote Tarasy as a key element of the educational campaign ‘Let’s talk frankly about obesity’. This year’s edition, carried out under the slogan ‘Listen to your heart. Treat obesity’, aims to draw attention to the consequences of the disease and promote open conversation about it.

The choice of location for the mural was no accident. Złote Tarasy is one of the most vibrant spots in the capital, with thousands of residents and tourists passing through every day. The 35-square-metre art installation will become an integral part of the urban landscape for over a month, inspiring reflection and conversation on health and obesity prevention. The creator of the work is Martyna Wędzicka-Obuchowicz, known for her innovative approach to graphic design and bold visual solutions. Her mural on the stairs refers to the motif of a beating heart, which symbolises life, care and health. The intense colours and dynamic shapes catch the eye, while emphasising the main message of the campaign.

The aim of the ‘Let’s talk frankly about obesity’ campaign is to make the public aware that obesity is not just a matter of aesthetics, but above all a serious condition that can lead to more than 200 different complications, including cardiovascular diseases. This year’s initiative, now in its sixth year, promotes an informed approach to obesity treatment and prevention, encouraging effective health measures. The mural will be available to residents and visitors to Warsaw from 10 March to 19 April 2025. It is an extraordinary opportunity to see a combination of art and education in public space and to reflect on one’s own health. The campaign has received support from a number of institutions, including the Polish Society for the Treatment of Obesity and the Polish Society for Childhood Obesity, underlining its national importance and relevance.

“I feel great satisfaction that my work has given me the opportunity to carry out this unique project, allowing me to be part of such an important initiative. Caring for health and body awareness are extremely important values to me. When designing the mural, I wanted to convey an important message in such a way that it would stand out in the urban space, attracting attention with its originality and distinctive colours,” says Martyna Wędzicka-Obbicka – says Martyna Wędzicka-Obuchowicz.
