A new pavilion is being built at the Paluch shelter. It will be a place for senior dogs

A new geriatric pavilion is being built at the Jan Lityn Shelter on Paluch to improve the lives of elderly dogs requiring special care. The new building will be able to accommodate more than 70 dogs and will be equipped with modern facilities to provide them with comprehensive care. The pavilion will include veterinary surgeries, rehabilitation rooms and a treatment room, as well as grooming and bathing facilities. Separate rooms will be provided for bitches with puppies and dogs with behavioural problems, and the entire building will be connected to the shelter’s existing dog hospital, allowing for coordinated medical care on site.

The surroundings of the pavilion will also change. Play areas equipped with play and training equipment for dogs will be created in the grassy paddocks. To keep them comfortable on hot days, trees will be planted and canopies will be installed in the grounds, as well as pools where dogs can cool off. The area around the building will be separated from the neighbouring park by a fence with climbing plants, ensuring peace and security for the animals. To date, the foundations, steel structure and external walls of the building have been completed. The roof and the construction of the ceiling over the ground floor of the two-storey section are also complete. At present, the contractor is continuing with the damp-proofing of the floors and the installation of the internal walls. In the near future, the installation of windows, doors and installations is planned, as well as the construction of dog pens both inside and outside the building.

The design of the new pavilion also incorporates energy-saving and ecological solutions. There will be tanks for storing rainwater in the ground, and part of the roof will be covered with greenery to help retain some of the rainwater. In addition, photovoltaic panels will be installed on the roof, which will contribute to the use of renewable energy sources. The construction of the pavilion and associated landscaping works are expected to be completed in December 2024. The total cost of the investment is almost PLN 5 million. The Stołeczny Zarząd Rozbudowy Miasta (Capital City Development Authority) is responsible for the implementation, and the works contractor is RENAL BUD Adam Cebula. Once construction is complete, the facility will be equipped with the necessary equipment and furniture to make it fully operational.
