A revolution in the small town of Mrzezin. This is what the railway station looks like now

Reconstruction has been completed in Mrzezin, giving the local railway station a completely new look. The building, which is over a hundred years old, is located on the line leading to the Hel Peninsula. After redevelopment, the old and neglected building was transformed into a modern facility that meets modern requirements.

The railway station in Mrzezin, built at the beginning of the 20th century on the then railway line from Reda to Puck, has also operated trains to Hel since 1922. The facility became part of regional transport, and today regional trains running from Gdynia to Władysławowo and Hel stop here.

As part of the investment, the exterior of the station was redesigned, giving it a completely new look. The façade was finished with grey and beige flexible tiles, which emphasise the elegant character of the building, while large glazing now allows plenty of natural light inside. The refurbishment also included an expansion of the outdoor space. The building is complemented by a new shelter, which is an extension of the station’s roof and houses a summer waiting area and bicycle racks. In addition, the façade was enriched with new clocks and spatial inscriptions – the PKP S.A. logo and the name of the station can be seen on the side of the tracks, while the inscription “railway station” was placed on the other side.

The interior of the renovated station is designed in a minimalist and modern style. The air-conditioned waiting area is equipped with benches, and the walls feature electronic timetable boards, display cases for travel information and a traditional clock. Special attention has been paid to accessibility – the facility has been adapted to the needs of people with disabilities.

The revitalisation of the building also included improvements to the station’s surroundings. Modernised pavements, a new access road surface and designated parking spaces (six spaces in total) provide convenient access to the building. In addition, the introduction of new landscaping and tidying up of greenery has made the station surroundings more friendly and functional for residents and travellers.

The comprehensive reconstruction is the responsibility of Polskie Koleje Państwowe S.A. (Polish State Railways), which carried out the investment as part of a broader programme of modernisation of railway infrastructure in the Pomeranian Voivodeship. The reconstruction project was designed by Buden studio and the execution work was entrusted to 3JM Michał Bryłka from Kwidzyn. The total gross cost of the modernisation was PLN 4.49 million, and the preparation of the project documentation was co-financed by EU funds from the Operational Programme Infrastructure and Environment.
