The sailing marina in Tychy is part of the eastern quay of Lake Paprocany and the final stage that crowns the first promenade. Its design was created by the RS Robert Skitek studio. The architects skilfully exploited the natural layout of the site, creating a place that connects the marina to the walking route.
In 2020, the MOSM canoe marina was opened a few hundred metres away (we wrote about it HERE). It is the completed building for sailors that contains shelters for boats, rooms for sailing clubs and a training area. However, it was necessary to separate the functions so that both boaters and walkers could comfortably use the quay.
To resolve the crossing of functions, the architects decided to elevate the walking area to the roof of the building. Despite the lack of any fences, the area intended for boaters is separated from the main pedestrian traffic by a promenade, but is still accessible to the public.
The project was realised on a promontory, so the building and its roof adapt in plan to the shape of the lake shore. The promenade rises above the building and descends behind it, forming a loop in its projection allowing walkers to return to its older part.
The promenade is built of larch planks, which visually links it to the older part.

On the inner side, we created a continuous wooden seating area overlooking the lake. On the outer side, there is ornamental greenery in a depression along its entire length. Overlooking the water are two floating piers for mooring boats and a concrete slip for launching,” describes architect Robert Skitek.
Members of the sailing clubs can use the rooms, which are heavily glazed and offer views of the piers and the lake. In addition, clearances have been designed on both sides of the building to allow passage and passage for the boat launch and a convocation area with a green zone just behind the building.
The promenade and the two marinas are projects that studio RS Robert Skitek has been developing at the site since 2014. The result is an entire complex with a coherent aesthetic that provides an attractive place to walk, run or cycle.
