The seaside flat by studio Magma is a place that impresses with its panoramic view of the Puck Bay, as well as a unique art collection whose presence is felt in every corner. The interior was created with a family living outside Poland in mind, who wanted their holiday home on the Baltic Sea not only to be cosy, but also to provide a display for the precious paintings. The clients pay a lot of attention to details and non-standard solutions – and it is this approach that gives this flat its unique artistic character. The interior masterfully combines art déco, mid-century and modernism inspirations, resulting in a unique style full of personality.
From the very entrance, a strong impression awaits the guests – an abstract painting by Eugeniusz Minciel greets them with vivid colours, which serve as a kind of colour foreshadowing for the entire flat. The eye is also drawn to the monumental doors, which reach from floor to ceiling and swing open like stage screens. Their geometric division and art-deco infill make them reminiscent of Mondrian’s abstract compositions, creating a harmonious play of colours and textures.
The heart of the flat is the dining room, where the Bolia Orb chandelier towers over the Rosso Lepanto precious marble tabletop. The table is a custom-made work of art that fits perfectly into the room, and is surrounded by vintage chairs designed by Eugen Schmidt. The flat’s owners chose minimalist lamps with spherical shapes that hark back to the art déco style and provide subtle, soft light.
Behind large sliding doors are two bedrooms, each in bold, deep colours conducive to relaxation and tranquillity. The first is a space where the attention is drawn to a cut-out by Kasia Kmita, a contemporary Polish artist, surrounded by a composition of red, ultramarine and orange veneer of exotic bete wood. The second bedroom is kept in warm shades of ‘lobster shell’ and is separated from the bathroom by a glass wall, letting in natural light that enlivens the interior.
The bathroom has been given a unique character thanks to the Italian ceramics from 41zero42 – the fluted tiles here refer to the structure of the fireplace in the living room, creating a consistent visual effect. The ceiling features an innovative luminous Barrisol membrane, which adds brightness and optically enlarges the room. The lounge area of the living room features a blue sofa by &tradition and a unique ‘pleated’ bi-fireplace, custom-made in Corian, which looks like a sculpture.
The kitchen, although small, impresses with its mid-century style details. The interestingly designed openwork dividers and decorative fronts of the kitchen cabinets allude to the rounded forms that appear throughout the flat, creating a harmonious whole.
