A single-family house in Pobondy. They built it in a picturesque location

Its design was created by Łukasz Łanczkowski of the ŁAŁ Architecture studio. The house is located in Pobondzie, close to the Lithuanian border. Built on a green hill, the building is an example of the harmonious combination of architecture and nature.

The architect’s task was to prepare a design for a residential building that would fit well into the local landscape, as well as into the potential plan of a larger development complex. The body of the building has been integrated into the sloping terrain of the plot. The building leans against the slope and follows the natural slope, without dominating it. Even the entrance to the house from the west – via a footbridge gently rising above the site – emphasises the unique character of the building.

Situated on the west side, the entrance to the house is via a footbridge that allows convenient access at ground level. To the left of the footbridge is a small terrace, providing easy access to the fuel store and the entrance to the utility room, hidden behind a door blended into the façade. On the axis of the footbridge, the main entrance to the building is designed. The door, glazed with milky glass, guarantees privacy and, in the evening, enlivens the façade with artificial light, which also makes it easier to find the entrance after dark. The minimalist front elevation evokes an atmosphere of calm, concealing the surprises waiting inside the house.

Immediately after the entrance, on the left, there is a functional wardrobe and the entrance to the bathroom. The bathroom features a narrow lap window by the washbasin, with a view to the north. The room also has space for a small storage room, where the electric cooker and hot water cylinder are located. To the right of the entrance area, the master bedroom has been designed with a large elbow window to enjoy the view to the south, right up to the sky.

The main entrance axis leads to a separation of levels. The staircase upwards directs you to the small bedroom, which already announces its unusual shape and character from the entrance, being clearly visible on the hall axis.

The functional layout of the house has been designed to make the most of the natural views. The focal point of the living zone is an impressive glazing that frames the Suwalszczyzna landscape without interfering with the natural beauty of the surroundings. The glazing also provides an exit to the terrace (or rather terraces), which are an integral part of the body of the building, starting with a footbridge gently rising above the terrain, through the simple gabled body of the house, to the two terrace levels falling down the slope, which can be best observed from the southern side.

Also noteworthy is the unique “telescope bedroom,” through which one can admire the stars and amazing sunrises.

The building is distinguished by thoughtful technical details, including an openwork façade made of wooden planks with a carefully selected structure and spacing. An interesting feature is the hanging ceiling of the bedroom, which was supported on a wooden truss. This solution gave the room an impression of space. The space is crowned by details such as the wooden casings for the ventilation fireplaces.

The house in Pobondzi is a tribute to nature, the landscape and the investors’ needs. It is an example of architecture that not only understands the existing context, but also introduces a new quality by combining aesthetics with functionality. The house in Pobondziach is a property that can be rented out. The atmosphere of this place can therefore be felt by everyone.
