The design of this 45-metre flat in Kraków, created by the architects at also studio, focused from the outset on creating a space that, despite its modest size, would remain functional, well-organised and distinctive. The key was to break away from the original layout with a closed-off kitchen and make the most of every part of the available space.
The most important design decision turned out to be the functional reorganisation of the flat. Demolishing some of the walls and designing bespoke joinery allowed the perception of the interior to be completely transformed. Right from the entrance, attention is drawn to a multifunctional piece of furniture which, from the hallway side, serves as a spacious wardrobe, whilst from the kitchen side it becomes an integral part of the fitted units. As a result, the flat has gained a sense of cohesion, and every square metre has been utilised with exceptional precision.
A space open to light
Opening up the kitchen to the living room has given the interior a whole new quality. The living area, whilst compact, accommodates a comfortable living room, a dining area and a well-lit kitchen. It is a place where functionality meets aesthetics – without having to compromise on either. The design is based on warm beiges, natural wood and walnut accents, providing a calm backdrop for burgundy and navy blue details. The natural stone on the kitchen worktop emphasises the quality of the materials, whilst chrome-plated elements and carefully designed lighting create the atmosphere and enhance the interior’s architecture.
Throughout the flat, the finely crafted joinery plays a key role. Custom-designed furniture organises the space, lending it a harmonious character. The fitted units flow seamlessly between zones, giving the flat the impression of being designed as a single, well-thought-out whole.
A bathroom with a concept
The bathroom is the most striking part of the design. The architects opted for a bold combination of deep green tiles with an iconic black-and-white corset-themed mosaic. The combination of colours and textures creates a composition that is memorable, whilst remaining functional and orderly. It is a small space which, thanks to deliberate design choices, takes on a unique character.
The bedroom: an oasis of calm
The bedroom provides a calming counterpoint to the more expressive parts of the flat. Decorated in a beige and walnut colour scheme, it delights with its refined built-in furniture, where the wardrobe blends seamlessly with the shelves by the bed. The whole forms a single piece of furniture, ensuring the interior remains organised and harmonious. Pendant lights on either side of the bed subtly complement the composition, adding elegance and a sense of lightness.
This design by also studio proves that a small floor area need not mean compromises. A well-thought-out functional layout, carefully designed joinery and boldly chosen details have created a cohesive, unexpected and memorable interior. This is a flat in which every element has its purpose, and aesthetics go hand in hand with functionality.
