With an area of just 31 square metres, the Krakow studio is a small but characterful flat designed by Diana Żurek and Gutek Girk, the creators of Furora Studio. The space, which initially appeared to be a considerable challenge, has been transformed into a functional and stylish interior thanks to a carefully thought-out layout and unique details. As this is a short-term rental flat, an important objective was to create zones with different functions that provide comfort and promote relaxation.
In order to make maximum use of the available space, the designers decided on several demolitions that opened up the space and connected the living room to the kitchen. As a result, the view of the elegant and modern living room opens up to the eye from the entrance. A key objective was to hide the kitchen functions so that the entire interior had a more ‘living room’ feel. This gave the space a light and harmonious feel, as well as a more spacious feel.
The interior is filled with a pleasant warmth thanks to the use of wood in two shades – light and dark – which harmonises perfectly with the stone with its visible grain. Metal elements in rose gold and mature colours bring elegance and coherence to the overall design. Also noteworthy are the many details, such as the stuccowork swirling along the walls and the geometric forms and curves that appear on the furniture. Every element, from the furniture to the decoration, has been designed with a light form and delicate shapes that harmonise with the rest of the interior.
The flat’s small dimensions have been cleverly balanced by the use of optical tricks. An essential element is the portal that leads to the sleeping area. Hidden behind a soft curtain, the bedroom has been designed in a way that makes the room appear larger while creating an intimate atmosphere. Thanks to the use of a mirror and wallpaper with playful patterns, the space feels more spacious, plus it perfectly reflects the light that fills the interior, giving it a warm, cosy feel.
The interior of the bathroom is another example of thoughtful design. The floor is tiled with black and cream tiles, so-called gorse tiles, which give it an elegant look, while the wooden cladding on the walls makes the space feel cosy and warm. As throughout the flat, light also plays a key role here. Thanks to the subtle arrangement of its sources, the bathroom has a soft, atmospheric atmosphere.
The small studio apartment in Krakow is a perfect combination of different styles – from classic, soft designs to modern, subtle details. The flat combines elegance and comfort while maintaining a modern character. The use of muted fabrics, classic forms and contemporary elements creates a space that is both functional and full of aesthetic pleasure.
