A stylish flat designed by Karol Budziszewski has been completed as part of the Nowy Port development in Bydgoszcz. The architect based his concept on simplicity, carefully selected materials and the interplay of natural light. The interior catches the eye with its calm aesthetic and warm colours.
A stylish flat in Bydgoszcz
The narrative in this Bydgoszcz project by Karol Budziszewski unfolds gradually, focusing on the quality of materials, proportions and light. There is no excess of decoration or stylistic flourishes here – instead, there are light-coloured surfaces, soft fabrics, wood with a distinct grain, and stone surfaces in warm, natural shades. The flat exudes a sense of calm and is perfect for unwinding after a busy day.
Quartz composite in the kitchen
The most important part of the flat is the open-plan living area with the kitchen. Its centrepiece is a massive island finished in sintered quartz imitating travertine. The same material is used on the worktop, the sides of the unit and the work wall – the whole thing gives the impression of being carved from a single block of stone. The subtle veining and matt finish ensure a natural aesthetic whilst offering high durability for everyday use. The minimalist fitted units, finished in a warm beige, feature smooth, handle-free fronts, which further emphasise the texture of the sintered quartz. Meanwhile, Oskar Zięta’s chrome-plated piece adds a sculptural touch to the interior. Its organic form reflects light, changing its appearance depending on the time of day and the viewing angle. Karol’s composition is complemented by a cylindrical island cooker hood and steel and chrome details, which balance the warmth of the wood, fabrics and stone. Natural light is an equally important feature of the design. The large windows are covered with semi-transparent curtains that filter the sun’s rays, casting shadows on the walls and furniture throughout the day that highlight the textures of the materials.
A stylish flat in Bydgoszcz: spatial layout
The flat’s lounge area maintains the same aesthetic. A modular sofa, coffee tables with soft, organic lines and a decorative lamp with a light, almost sculptural form create a peaceful space for relaxation. Every piece of furniture has been chosen with both appearance and everyday comfort in mind. The biggest change to the layout was the removal of the traditional partition wall. In its place is a bespoke built-in unit that separates the living area from the private area, offers additional storage space and discreetly conceals the passageway leading to the bedroom. When closed, the door almost disappears into the surface of the unit, whilst when opened, the eye is drawn to the upholstered bed and the round mirror positioned behind the headboard.
A serene aesthetic from the living room to the bedroom
The bedroom echoes the living area. It is dominated by light-coloured fabrics, warm shades of beige and soft upholstered surfaces. The round mirror breaks up the linear geometry of the built-in units, introducing softer shapes, whilst the glass partition visually enlarges the interior and defines the functional division.
Karol Budziszewski has created a timeless flat in Bydgoszcz, the design of which is not based on passing fads or showy effects. Its strength lies in cleverly chosen proportions, the effective use of light and carefully selected materials. It is a quality that never goes out of fashion.
