A stylish makeover: Grażyna Wolszczak’s flat in a tenement block in Warsaw

In a pre-war Warsaw tenement block, an interior has been created that blends the building’s distinguished history with a bold, contemporary vision. Grażyna Wolszczak’s flat, designed by Marta Eljasiak Dziki of the Beautiful Minds studio, is an example of a transformation carried out with a full understanding of form, materials and the owner’s character. From the initial concept to the final result – every stage was meticulously refined to create a space that is luxurious, personal and distinctive.

Initially, the plan was simply to give the flat a subtle refresh, but an analysis of the client’s needs quickly led to the decision to carry out a complete transformation. The designer prepared several completely different concepts – ranging from classic to decidedly bolder. One of them proved to be the ideal starting point, and the mood board prepared by the architect – featuring cobalt, burgundy, oak and Rosso Levanto marble – became the foundation for further work. It was at this stage that the atmosphere of the future interior was defined, which was later translated into visualisations and technical drawings detailing every aspect of the project.

A new identity

The flat combines oak herringbone flooring, decorative glass, fine veneers and Rosso Levanto marble with its intense, deep colour. These materials provide the backdrop for the collector’s design pieces and artworks, which were an integral part of the concept from the outset. The interior is a space with a distinctive identity, in which every element has been selected with the owner in mind.

One of the most distinctive features is the sculptural Omu sofa, whose organic form introduces softness into the interior’s geometric composition. It is accompanied by the designer Apolin lamp and a unique column made from over a hundred steel tubes. This element, designed specifically for the flat, serves simultaneously as a sculpture, mood lighting and a plinth for displaying art. It brings a sense of lightness and movement to the interior, becoming one of the apartment’s most captivating features.

Light creates atmosphere

The lighting design is based on four layers – general, task, accent and decorative. Thanks to this, the space changes depending on needs and the time of day. The light fittings were selected to emphasise the textures of the materials, bring out the depth of the colours and create atmospheric scenes. It is the light that ties the whole design together, lending the interior a sense of drama and elegance.

The final stages of the project involved decisions regarding wallpaper and ceiling decorations. Bold patterns and textures add character to the space, whilst harmonising with the architecture of the townhouse. This was the moment when the interior truly came into its own – you could already sense the atmosphere of the future home, even before the turnkey project had begun.

The final result: cobalt, burgundy and oak

The apartment’s final look is proof of how a consistently executed concept can translate into a cohesive, luxurious space. Deep cobalt and burgundy have been paired with natural shades of wood, creating an interior full of energy and individual character. Every detail – from the choice of materials to the design of the bespoke column – was guided by the idea of creating a space that fully reflects Grażyna Wolszczak’s personality.

It is a classy transformation, where the history of a Warsaw tenement meets contemporary design. The result is timeless: elegant, bold and refined down to the last detail. Well done!
