Dwupoziomowe mieszkanie we Wrocławiu

A two-storey flat in Wrocław. Inspired by nature

The Ładny Kwadrat studio has designed a two-level flat in Wrocław. The apartment is located in a new residential building in Strachowice. Its arrangement was based on observation of the surrounding nature and the changes it undergoes throughout the year. The view of the treetops, accessible from the flat’s windows, served as a starting point for the designers to create an interior that reflects the rhythm of nature.

The lower floor is kept in shades of green that evoke associations with spring. The upper floor, on the other hand, is a nod to the autumnal palette, with warm browns, red tones and intense accents. This arrangement of colours creates a flowing story of the passing of the seasons and places the flat in the natural rhythm of its surroundings.

Well thought-out functional layout

The 75-square-metre flat is located on the top two floors of the new building and has been designed with a three-person family in mind. On the first level, there is a living room with kitchen and dining area, as well as an entrance hall and a toilet with laundry function. The first floor, on the other hand, houses the private area of the family – two bedrooms and a bathroom. The entrance area has been arranged sparingly, but thoughtfully. The carpeted oak staircase plays a major role here, with its openwork balustrade of vertical bars also appearing as a leitmotif in other parts of the flat. The space under the staircase is used as a built-in storage area. Above the staircase, decorative, colourful lamps by Artera are suspended to provide a colourful, light accent.

Living space surrounded by greenery

From the hallway, a passage leads to the open-plan living area. The space of the living room, kitchen and dining area is filled with natural light coming in through large windows overlooking the park. The dominant colour of this part of the flat is green – subdued and muted, close to the colour scheme outside the window. The wooden parquet flooring and carefully selected textures emphasise the feeling of being close to nature. A play of contrasts is used in the interior. The neutral colour palette was broken up with black geometric accessories, such as a coffee table by Nooma and paintings by Justyna Małczak. The U-shaped kitchen has been optically divided by tiles, also in a geometric pattern. The fronts of the upper cabinets were made of a mirror-like material that reflects light, and a flowerbed filled with green plants hung above the kitchen peninsula. The peninsula, which houses a sink suspended from a white conglomerate worktop, also functions as a bar with seating. In the dining area, upholstered seating was used instead of traditional chairs. This solution saved space and added cosiness to the interior. An abstract painting by Aleksandra Kaliszan and a Normann Copenhagen Bau lamp are also distinctive elements.

Two-storey flat in Wrocław – geometryand autumn colours

The lower bathroom is kept in green tones and is based on geometric forms. Tiles from the I Colori collection by Cesi and Neve Creative by Paradyż appear on the walls. Laundry equipment is hidden behind mirrored fronts, which helps to keep things tidy and optically enlarge the interior. The first floor is dominated by autumn colours. In the bedroom, the main role is played by a ceiling painted in warm shades of red, contrasting with the neutral walls. The lime-wash texture of the walls adds depth to the interior. A large paper lamp above the bed and decorative wall lamps complete the space with soft light. Natural materials such as the wooden floor, the plaid on the wardrobe fronts and the upholstered bed create an atmosphere of comfort and autumnal cosiness.

Upper bathroom – intense colour accent

Despite its limited space, the upstairs bathroom houses both a shower and a small bathtub. The colour scheme continues that of the bedroom, with the luscious terracotta shade on the ceiling and the washbasin by Omnires contrasting with the white wall tiles and floor mosaic from the Tesserae collection by WOW. A furniture unit made of plywood brings balance and order to the expressive design elements. Geometric forms recur here as a unifying theme throughout the project.

Two-storey flat in Wrocław and its harmonywith the surroundings

The project by Ładny Kwadratu is an example of a coherent and thoughtful approach to the interior. The flat draws inspiration from nature by the handful, but also allows for a constant dialogue with the surroundings. The division of colours according to the rhythm of the seasons and the careful selection of materials and details make the space an integral part of the landscape outside the window.
