The owners fell in love with this unique 1920s villa at first sight. The beautiful house, surrounded by old trees and standing on the border of a forest, enchanted the owners, who decided to create their own asylum within its walls. They invited Olga Kurek, who was responsible for most of the interiors, and the Profilart studio, which designed the bathrooms upstairs.
A villa from the inter-war period – preserve as much as you can!
“The house with its soul and history struck the owners with its unique beauty and harmony, so right away the goal was one: to preserve as much as possible, so as to maintain the unique authentic character of the place. Above all, the functional layout of the house was preserved, with a very large entrance hall, a separate kitchen and two living rooms. During the initial design work, there was an idea to move the kitchen into one of the living rooms so that it would be located closer to the conservatory. This idea was rejected already at the first stage of the project.” – says Olga Kurek
An interior with respect for history
The ground floor of the house is a large bright living area in which the rooms flow seamlessly together. The original parquet floor has been preserved throughout the house. In the hall, the kitchen and the small toilet next to the kitchen, the flooring was replaced, as the previous one was no longer suitable for recovery. A classic black and beige mosaic with a double border was proposed. In the kitchen, a modern element appeared in the form of an island, above which was located a brass structure for hanging pots and pans. The black granite cladding of the island contrasts with the green stylised kitchen fronts. An additional functional element in the kitchen are two sinks, one kept in its original location under the window overlooking the forest, and the other integrated into the island as an auxiliary sink.
Entering the living areas
The two living rooms harmonise stylistically but have different purposes, one of them with a large comfortable green sofa is a lounge and TV space, we also have a library located here, which is a decorative element of this space. In the second living room, we have a dining table and a lounge, but the main eye-catching element is the huge fireplace portal, all original.
The interiors are decorated with very discreet newly designed stucco and decorative chandeliers from Ms Jurek, and 101 Copenhagen. Linen curtains were hung in the lounges to complement the overall interior. The restoration of the staircase was a great challenge and was undertaken by the owner himself. A little gem is the toilet next to the kitchen, whose walls are adorned with a very distinctive monkey motif wallpaper from Cole& Son, which is accentuated by a sconce in the form of an animal. Upstairs there are three bedrooms, the owners’ bedroom with a pass-through to the master bathroom, a child’s bedroom and a guest room.
All window and door woodwork on the ground floor has been retained and restored, with only a couple of windows on the first floor and the orangery woodwork replaced. The main colour in this interior is green, which appears in virtually every room and alludes to the surrounding outdoor flora.
