The design of the building was created by the OOOOX studio. The white villa is located in Lanzarote, and its residents can enjoy its proximity to the ocean and beaches. The house was built with respect for local tradition, hence the distinctive white façade.
It is not a new building. The architects’ task was to prepare a design for the reconstruction of the house that would fit in with its surroundings. On this Canarian island, there are strict rules regarding building height, building density and, above all, colour. As a result, the whole island looks cohesive, with white architecture set in a black landscape decorated with green palms. This range of colours became the central theme of the interior.
The original design of the building was created by a local architectural firm. The house was built in 2000 and the renovation project involved partially modifying the layout and creating more bedrooms.
Originally, the villa only served a couple and all the spaces were absurdly spacious. At the same time, we limited ourselves to only simple interventions,” describe the authors of the project.
The architects gave the bathroom an airy feel, an effect achieved by installing a large glass window, giving a view of the garden. They reduced the living space and combined the living room with the kitchen and dining room. A yoga studio was created upstairs and a sun terrace with an outdoor shower was created on the roof.
We connected the indoor living space to the outdoor terrace, where we paved a long dining table and seating areas with a pergola against the lava wall. An outdoor kitchen with barbecue was also created in this area, the architects add.
Inside, all the floor and wall surfaces were changed. Previously, there was wood on the floor, which had already had to be removed due to the humid climate. The new floor is made of concrete. The bathroom space has been decorated with green tiles. Local lava stones are decorative elements. One of them serves as a support for the countertop.
The island enjoys a similar climate almost all year round. If the evenings get too chilly, however, the residents can use the new fireplace in the living room. Mechanical cooling is not necessary; the white villa is naturally ventilated. In case of extreme temperatures, air conditioning has been installed in the bedrooms. Importantly, most of the furniture adorning the house comes from local manufacturers. Only a few antique furniture and accessories were imported from the Czech Republic.
