A2 motorway 63 kilometres longer. A great investment is being launched!

The A2 motorway will be 63 kilometres longer! In the east of the country, one of the largest road investments of recent years is starting. It is a project that will connect Siedlce with Biała Podlaska, becoming part of the TEN-T trans-European transport network. The new section is expected not only to make travel easier, but also to boost the local economy and increase the investment attractiveness of the region.

European Union funding and ambitious plans

The project was officially approved by the Minister of Infrastructure, Dariusz Klimczak, and the Minister of Funds and Regional Policy, Katarzyna Pełczyńska-Nałęcz. Poland received PLN 765 million from the Cohesion Fund under the FEnIKS 2021-2027 programme. The total cost of the construction of the new A2 section exceeds PLN 2.9 billion.

This is already the thirteenth investment supported under FEnIKS, which confirms the strategic importance of the expansion of the road network in Poland and the effective use of EU funds.

A2 motorway 63 kilometres longer – infrastructure for the 21st century

The scope of the investment goes beyond the route itself. It includes, among others:

  • three new motorway interchanges (Siedlce Wschód, Łukowisko, Biała Podlaska),

  • four Motorway Service Areas (MOPs),

  • two Motorway Maintenance Districts,

  • bridges, flyovers and modern safety systems.

In addition, a section of the S19 expressway will be constructed at the Łukowisko junction, which will further increase the functionality of the entire road system.

“Design and build” – modern approach to implementation

Construction will be carried out under the ‘design and build’ formula, which means that contractors will adapt technical solutions to local conditions already at the design stage. This significantly shortens the execution time and increases the efficiency of the works. Most sections of the new A2 are already under construction, and the Swory-Biała Podlaska section has been granted an occupancy permit.

A2 motorway – greater safety and development of regions

As Minister Dariusz Klimczak emphasised, the investment will have a positive impact not only on the comfort of travel, but also on the development of local communities and the increase of the economic potential of eastern provinces.

– Modern infrastructure is the basis for the sustainable development of the country,” said Minister Klimczak.

The new A2 section will save thousands of travel hours per year, improve the transport of goods and people, and increase road safety.

Future plans – A2 closer to the border

However, this is not the end of activities. Preparations are already underway for the next stage of extension – by another 25 kilometres towards the border crossing at Dobryn. Thus, the A2 motorway is gradually moving closer to the border with Belarus, making it a key element of infrastructure not only for Poland, but for the whole of Central and Eastern Europe.
