The Warsaw-based studio RES Design has designed an interior for the same clients for the third time. This time, the architects have taken on a 120-square-metre flat in Powiśle. The design is based on a calm palette of warm whites, wooden parquet flooring and carefully selected materials and furniture. The result is a bright, refined space where minimalism is softened by cosy accents and soft lines.
Gentle curves and rounded edges are a recurring theme throughout the flat. They appear, for example, at the corners of the walls, in built-in furniture, in joinery details and in lighting elements. This gives the interiors a calmer feel and a more harmonious atmosphere. The designers opted for natural materials and recognisable design. The apartment features a Tulip table by Eero Saarinen, as well as furnishings from Vitra and Gubi. The largest space in the flat is the living room, dominated by a built-in unit over five metres long. Its distinguishing feature is a veneered recess that flows seamlessly into the side wall. The composition is complemented by a Comforty corner sofa from the Classic collection designed by Krystian Kowalski, a Pacha armchair by Gubi, and a Noguchi glass coffee table by Vitra.

Opposite the seating area stands the aforementioned iconic Tulip table, behind which a space has been arranged for evening screenings. Acoustic comfort is enhanced by a felt wall featuring a triptych-style relief. Concealed within the ceiling is a cassette housing a pull-down screen over three metres wide. During the day, the room functions as a formal living area, whilst after dark it transforms into an intimate home cinema.
The clients wanted a separate kitchen, accessible from two sides: from the living room and from the apartment entrance. This layout influenced the positioning of the worktop and tall units. Light-coloured fronts, a large window and a subdued colour scheme enhance the impression of spaciousness. A warm touch is provided by the bespoke wooden worktop. At the entrance, a minimalist hallway has been created with a veneered recess concealing a seat, cupboards and a passage to the walk-in wardrobe connected to the laundry room. Behind the wooden fronts, there is space for storing clothes and shoes. A separate area houses a washing machine, tumble dryer, water treatment system and a retractable metal drying rack mounted under the ceiling.
In the parents’ bedroom, a walk-through wardrobe has been installed in the corridor leading to the private area. This has allowed the bedroom itself to remain more visually uncluttered. The walls around the bed are finished with wallpaper, and above the upholstered headboard, a wooden recess with linear lighting has been created. It stretches across the entire width of the wall, forming a subtle feature.

Both bathrooms feature a similar aesthetic. They are distinguished by stone washbasins and ceiling skylights whose form echoes their shape. Light grey tiles and veneered furniture provide the backdrop for these fixtures. The flat is complemented by a room for two children and a study by the entrance. The Powiśle flat also features an automation system by the Swedish company Plejd, which works in conjunction with DALI lighting. It enables the creation of lighting scenes, control of blinds and the programming of schedules tailored to the daily routine of the household.
