An ascetic flat, which was created in Poznań’s Jeżyce district, is the latest realisation of the LBWA studio. The flat, with an area of 69 square metres, is located in one of the newly constructed buildings among historic tenement houses. Concrete, stainless steel, stone and light wood – a unique interior design was created based on these materials. What is more, the architects used real pearls of international – but also Polish – design in the interior.
The starting point for the project was a reclaimed flat in a development state, in which the functional layout met the Investors’ needs and did not require any significant changes. The project involved simplifying and tidying up the interior space, which consists of an entrance hall, living room with an annex, bathroom, utility room, home office and bedroom.
The authentic concrete ceiling and floor, combined with the white walls, form the basis of the unique character of the interior design. This austerity is softened with natural, light birch wood, which seamlessly permeates all rooms. Such a composed background is complemented by selected and unique furniture and accessories.
The entrance hall is separated from the kitchen by a high wooden cabinet, creating a natural separation of the two zones. The living area, which opens immediately after leaving the hall, is illuminated by large windows overlooking the greenery of the terrace and the building’s courtyard. The light entering the room is gently filtered by light linen curtains.
The heart of the space connecting the living room and kitchen is a large oak table complemented by vintage chairs, designed by Giancarlo Piretti. The kitchen cabinetry has been divided into two sections: a high section, finished in wood, and a low section with brushed stainless steel fronts. The straight lines of the worktop and the wall band in natural green stone complete the look. The stainless steel shelf suspended above creates a thin closing line.
An element that softens the austerity of the interior is the expansive and softly shaped Togo sofa, which fills the living area. The flowing lines of the sofa contrast with the simple shape of the coffee table made of natural stone according to the architects’ design.
The corridor leading to the study and bedroom is also finished in birch wood, maintaining the continuity of the material used in the entrance hall, additionally concealing the wardrobe and the door to the utility room.
The home office and the bedroom are separated by a wooden wall in which a sliding door with fluted glass can be concealed. This treatment allows the two rooms to be connected while leaving them feeling independent.
The bathroom reflects the character of the other rooms. The stainless steel cabinet with stone top, the wall finished in birch wood allude to the materials used in the rest of the flat. The geometric pattern of the tiles emphasises the simplicity and severity of the interior. A large mirror optically enlarges and illuminates the space. How do you like the ascetic flat by LBWA?
