An eclectic flat in an old tenement building in Poznań

In a renovated townhouse situated right next to Stare Koryto Warty Park in Poznań, a rental flat has been created which, from the very first glance, captivates with its vibrant colours and carefully chosen details. The windows offer a view of the 19th-century Poznań Gasworks – a monumental building that may soon undergo its own transformation. This urban context served as the starting point for creating an interior in which history and the present intertwine in a natural and unforced manner.

Colour, wood and the energy of the place

The designers from So.Design Studio opted for eclecticism, treating it as a consistent response to the building’s character. Vibrant colours were paired with dark wood, lending the space distinctiveness and depth. As a result, the interior has gained authenticity – it is not a space dominated by a single style, but a home that thrives on the dialogue between different aesthetics. Dark wood warms the composition, whilst colourful accents introduce lightness and freshness.

Sophisticated details and Polish design

There is no room in the design for randomness or repetitive, off-the-shelf solutions. Here we find chrome lamps with a distinctive, designer form and chairs designed by Bellotti – furniture with a history, bearing subtle signs of wear that only emphasise their timeless character. The whole is complemented by elements of Polish design: an Art Deco-style display cabinet and porcelain plates from the 1980s from the Chodzież Porcelain and Porcelite Works. These items shape the identity of the interior, rooting it in local tradition.

A well-thought-out spatial layout

Although the flat is not large, it has been planned to ensure comfort and a sense of freedom. A large mirrored wardrobe visually enlarges the space, reflecting light and organising the living area. Separating the bedroom area into a separate wing has allowed for a clear division of functions, making the layout of the flat clear and harmonious. This is an example of a design where every detail has its purpose – from the choice of materials to the way light is directed.

This eclectic flat in a Poznań tenement house demonstrates that a rented interior can be not only functional but also full of character. It is a space that does not try to be something it is not, but draws on the history of the place, makes use of high-quality items and creates a cohesive, vibrant whole.
