An oasis of calm. Warsaw flat for lovers of simplicity

Its interior was designed by architects from Ewa Thomas Studio. The Warsaw flat was created for a couple with whom the architects had worked before. This time, they created their private space, which reflects their lifestyle and aesthetic taste.

The investors knew exactly what they wanted. The owner is in love with simplicity with eclectic touches, while the owner prefers minimalism and natural materials. Both are producers of international photo shoots and travel frequently. Fascinated by Scandinavia and Japan, with a love of nature and exploring new places, they wanted their flat to reflect these passions.

Shortly after the project was completed, the investor set off by kayak across the Baltic Sea to Bornholm, and the investor consulted with us, having travelled from, among other places, the Cannes Festival. The whole process was dynamic and full of commitment to a consistently well thought-out concept that inspired us at every stage. It is rare that we have to deal with investors who are so conscious of their preferences,” admit the project’s authors.

Space and light

When planning the design work, the architects focused on functionality; the available space was to be used to the maximum extent. They made it possible to move around in the interior. The additional doorway from the kitchen to the bedroom allows for circular movement in the flat and also lets in more light.

We transformed the central part of the flat into a kitchen tract on one side and a wardrobe tract on the other. Opening up the kitchen made the interior bright and airy. Doors reaching all the way to the ceiling, new communication axes defined by precisely designed furniture, gave the space lightness and harmony, explains the design duo.

High-quality materials are important in the interior. The kitchen island is topped with a stone table with a characteristic octagonal leg, which slightly alludes to the style of the 1970s. Stone also appears in the bathroom and subtly intertwines with wood, creating a coherent whole. In addition, the stone elements complement the designed built-ins.

The Warsaw flat is now an oasis of calm. Harmony and a positive atmosphere reign here. It is the ideal place to relax after intensive travel. And the investors have been on quite a few. From a trip to Helsinki, they brought back the first painting to decorate the space. The flat is ready for more personal souvenirs.

About the studio:

Ewa Thomas Studio is a design studio that was born out of a fascination with space, light and an awareness of the power of details and material textures. In its work, the studio focuses on bringing out what is essential in a place. – “We look for a common denominator for the people who will inhabit the space, the functional layout, the pondered or created architecture and the colour palette. We have long discussions to get to know our partner, the studio, we sketch, we prototype,” – reads the studio’s website. Ewa Thomas Studio works in Zurich and Warsaw, drawing the best from Western and Central European culture.
