The space of the SUŁKOWSKI LEGAL law firm, designed by the renowned Warsaw-based mow.design studio, is located in a single-storey building by a busy roundabout in Katowice. Following an adaptation by MUS Architects, the black and white pavilion fully reflects the spirit of contemporary aesthetics. The thoughtful layout of the building corresponds well with the nature of the law firm’s business, specialising in commercial and business law. The owners, actively involved in the design process, followed the ‘less is more’ principle from the outset, aiming to create a space that harmoniously combines the desired style and functionality. The result is stylish interiors that support legal precision and inspire daily work in an environment of sophisticated design.
The lump of the pavilion, in a black and white colour scheme with large-format glazing, harmonises perfectly with the restrained, sophisticated style of the interior. The white walls and floors, contrasting with the black, louvered ceilings and subdued lighting, create a harmonious space that is open to the interior patio. As a result, natural light easily permeates here, corresponding with the atmosphere of solemnity and tranquillity that prevails at SUŁKOWSKI LEGAL.
Invited to design the interiors, architects Weronika Król and Marta Żebrowska-Wojczuk from the mow.design studio presented a unique response to the law firm owner’s expectations of incorporating a subdued interior aesthetic into the minimalist nature of the building, placing emphasis on the consistency of colours, materials and textures. The result was a space that exudes elegance, creating ideal conditions for professional legal activities.
Contrast of materials and history enchanted in design
The choice of materials was based on carefully selected elements; black textures, fabrics, leather and a variety of finishes from gloss to matt. The exception is the more strongly accentuated reception desk, made of stone with a distinctive pattern that breaks up the monochromatic colour scheme while emphasising the character of the space. To balance this, a subtly integrated visual identity, made of brushed stainless steel, draws attention to one of the walls. Two vintage Wassily armchairs that once adorned a law office in Switzerland have been placed in this space, adding a bit of historical context to the décor.
In the managing partner’s office, the centrepiece of the arrangement is a leather-finished desk, which fits perfectly with the office’s minimalist aesthetic. Leather was also used in the conference room as a finishing material for the bucket-shaped, wraparound chairs, which harmonise with the minimalist glass table of oversized dimensions, fully adapted to the needs and style of working and receiving guests in the law firm. Other areas dedicated to lawyers, such as the shared open space and dedicated remote working areas, also maintain a high standard. They are functionally designed, comfortable and their finishes are based on durable materials that are also aesthetically captivating. The choice of decorative lighting is another well-thought-out aspect of the design, with deliberate use of minimalist forms. Thanks to modern technology, the firm’s employees are able to consciously control the lighting effects, adjusting the intensity and position of the light according to their needs, which significantly affects the final perception of the interior.
A chancellery full of art. Polish art!
Polish art played a special role in creating the atmosphere of SUŁKOWSKI LEGAL. Paintings in shades of blue, green and brown introduce warmth into the space, breaking the official character of the law office. Glass sculptures and spatial forms add depth and individuality to the interiors. Such a unique combination of thoughtful architectural solutions, contemporary design and artists’ works emphasises that the application of law can be an art, and that the aesthetics of the law firm’s interiors are just as important as substantive excellence.
