Aquapark Kyjov: revitalisation and modernisation of the former swimming pool

Aquapark Kyjov – Sports and Leisure Centre started its operations by modernising the existing outdoor public swimming pool. It now also has a newly built indoor swimming pool to complement it. The history of the swimming pool dates back to the early 20th century, when a river bathing area was established. The complex is well integrated into the existing urban structure and central park in Kyjov, being surrounded by century-old trees. Thanks to the new layout, the existing space is used to the maximum. In close proximity to the greenery and the town centre, customers can discover an attractive range of sports and recreational activities.

The new building harmonises with the surrounding environment and does not disturb its overall character. The linear layout and fine structure extend along Mezivodí Street. The new pool courtyard is located on the main pedestrian and cycle route leading to the city centre. As part of the revitalisation, the avenue of trees has been renewed, the paved areas modified and other elements added to complement the entire complex. Visitors to the pool and passers-by can enter at any time and enjoy a cup of coffee on one of the outdoor terraces accessible from the lobby.

The façade of the building is softened with brick cladding and perforated sheet metal in gold. All this is complemented by the views available through the building’s glazing, which visually links the outdoor pool area to the courtyard. The indoor pool hall is turned 90 degrees relative to the building and integrates with the outdoor greenery. The full-wall glazing of the pool hall reinforces the sense of connection between the two spaces. The architectural design envisages a gradual, further development of the complex over the next 10 years.

The indoor pool hall is divided into three main sections – the swimming pool, the leisure pool and the wellness area. The main swimming pool has five lanes with a length of 25 m. The leisure pool offers benches with massage jets, pool fountains and a water slide. There is also a jacuzzi and a paddling pool for children. While swimming, visitors can enjoy pleasant views of the neighbouring park and the greenery of the outdoor complex. In the wellness area, there are five saunas – a tropical sauna, a salt sauna, an aroma sauna, a Turkish steam bath and a Finnish ceremonial sauna overlooking the outdoor pool. All saunas are of different sizes and temperatures and are designed to provide a sense of intimacy. Visitors will discover maximum peace and privacy here. The wellness area also includes a cooling pool and a relaxation room with the Barrisol starry sky. There are also three outdoor terraces.

On the ground floor there are changing rooms, showers and changing facilities for the outdoor pool. There is also an Aqua bar, which serves both the outdoor and indoor areas. The leisure pool offers a relaxation area with a massage bench, basketball hoop and slides. There is also a paddling pool for the little ones and a swimming pool with three 50m lanes.

The entire Aquapark Kyjov complex is a unique place on the map of the city, where everyone can find something to their liking. The revitalisation of the former swimming pool proves that such places can still be fully usable despite the passage of decades.
