The eleventh edition of the Architectural Award of the Mayor of the City of Warsaw competition has been launched. Residents of the capital can decide which buildings, places or events should win their award. A total of 17 projects are nominated. Which of the proposals should win? The organisers are waiting for votes until 11 May.
The list includes the following city investments: a pedestrian and bicycle bridge, the Museum of Modern Art, Chmielna and Bracka in a new version, a school on Świderska Street, the Intergenerational Centre on Korotyńskiego Street and the Suwak linear park. Each of these investments responds to the needs of Varsovians. Other nominees included the Warsaw University dormitory, the sweet Chocolate Museum, an office quarter and important revitalisations: Cepelia Pavilion and the Palace of the Republic – National Library. There are also new houses and even a tram depot. There were also architectural events.
– We are beginning the most exciting stage of our competition. Before voting, I encourage all of you to take a spring walk around Warsaw. Take a look at the nominated buildings and choose the realisation that you consider to be the most beautiful and best serving us all. The next edition of our award shows how quickly and dynamically our city is changing ,” says Rafał Trzaskowski, Mayor of the Capital City of Warsaw.
Voting by residents
The hardest part of the work was done by the 10-member competition jury headed by Deputy Mayor of the City of Warsaw Renata Kaznowska. The experts made many field trips. As a result, they selected the best investments in six categories. All of them are nominated for the Architectural Award of the Mayor of the City of Warsaw. But only one investment or event will win the prestigious Residents’ Award and PLN 20,000. The winner of the Residents’ Award and the results of the entire competition will be announced on 3 June at a gala event.
The poll of the public lasts until 11 May. How to vote? Just visit the website nagroda-architektoniczna.pl, read the descriptions and photos of the nominations and cast your vote for the chosen project. The building, place or event with the highest number of votes will win the Residents’ Award.

And there will be an exhibition presenting all of this year’s nominees on the square in front of the ZODIAKA Warsaw Architecture Pavilion (Stefan Wiechecki Wiecha Passage 4).
