Amidst old trees, in a quiet part of the city, west of Toronto, a house has been built that, instead of impressing with its scale, has a calming effect. Project 21, completed in 2025, is a new development designed by SMPL Design Studio in collaboration with LN Studio. The investment was created from scratch with a young family in mind, who dreamed of a timeless space – elegant, fresh and soothing.
These three keywords: Elegant, Fresh, Tranquil became the design framework, determining every architectural gesture and every material decision.
The house as a sanctuary
The project is located in Ancaster, an intimate community valued for its small-town character and lush, mature greenery. In an environment where no two houses are alike, the investors wanted to create a space that would be a calming counterbalance to the pace of modern life.
The architecture balances between the contemporary and the rooted. The structure does not dazzle with its form – its strength lies in its proportions and details. Subtle asymmetries introduce visual tension, but do not disturb the harmony. The kitchen island rests on a rounded leg contrasted with a stone block. The lighting uses uneven proportions. These are small shifts that build character without excess.

A soothing material
The interior is based on a consistent, restrained palette. Warm wood tones combine with Arabescato marble, whose pattern brings subtle dynamics. Natural textures – linen, transparent curtains, soft fabrics – create a layered, tactile composition.
The key element is the integrated, almost invisible woodwork. The built-in furniture flows smoothly into the walls, organising the space and eliminating visual chaos. As a result, the house feels cohesive, calm and well thought-out in every detail.
Curves soften the linear base of the design. They appear in the non-standard kitchen hood, in the media cabinet integrated into the stairs and in the delicate arch of the fireplace wall. It is these soft lines that give the interior movement and lightness.
A design for generations
Project 21 was created in response to the need to “slow down”. The investors were not looking for a temporary effect, but a home that would mature along with their family. That is why the durability of the materials, the clarity of the functional layout and the timelessness of the details were so important.
Agrigento Luxury Homes was responsible for the implementation, and Riley Snelling for the photographs. The floral arrangements were prepared by Cosmic Poppy Design.
