The Scorpio Garden House project by BXB studio is an excellent example of architecture that responds to the challenges of the future. The underground shelter not only provides protection, but also allows for daily use. The design’s unique selling point is the direct access to the garden, which makes the space useful and can be used in many ways.
The underground part of the house, made of reinforced concrete technology or modular steel elements, allows for any interior design. The space adjacent to the outdoor area can be customised to suit a variety of needs, from a wine cellar to a home cinema to a luxury spa or guest suite. The interior of the shelter is also equipped with an atomic-resistance door, which, hidden behind veneer panels, only closes when threatened. In addition, the doors are reinforced with a reinforced concrete wall that acts as a barrier against the shock wave. The wall is designed to resemble a fireplace, which adds to the structure’s aesthetic appeal.
The distinguishing feature of the Scorpio Garden House is its luxurious functionality. It is not only a shelter, but also a space where passions and daily activities are pursued. The project redefines the defence facility, taking it to a level of luxury – much like a sports car or yacht. By working with specialised companies, it is possible to adapt the underground to virtually any function, while maintaining full resistance to nuclear, biological and chemical threats. This type of space provides security in the face of pandemics, disasters or armed conflicts.
The system’s name refers to the scorpion – a creature that can survive a nuclear attack. Scorpio Garden House is therefore a building that symbolises exceptional resilience, but also a modern approach to defence architecture. BXB studio not only designs traditional buildings and residences, but has also become a specialist in creating shelters that fit in with modern human needs.
Shelter – interior design
The Scorpio Garden House project also touches on important social aspects. With it, the authors of the project are disenchanting the classic war bunkers, changing their image to a more human one. The shelters become luxurious spaces that combine a defensive function with everyday use. It is an ideal solution compatible with any type of development – from flat blocks to luxury villas and individual homes. It is therefore a space that not only provides security, but also increases the value of the investment and the quality of the usable space.
The Scorpio Garden House reverses the stereotypes associated with traditional shelters, creating a fashion for owning them. Investing in this type of facility will become popular, especially in the face of increasing threats. It is worth noting that many countries are already securing spaces for their citizens – such as Switzerland and Finland, where shelters accommodate all residents. In Sweden, such facilities secure 70% of the population, in Norway 50%, and in Poland only 3.8%.
