Asylum in Krakow. She designed a flat in the japanese style

Located in Krakow, the flat offers peace and respite. Architect Marzena Kosiorowska-Kijowska has proposed an interior that soothes the senses at first sight. In her studio mKosiorowska INTERIOR DESIGN, she created a design based on the philosophy of japandi – a subtle combination of Japanese minimalism and Scandinavian cosiness, filling the space with natural warmth and precisely planned functionality.

From the moment you step through the door, you are enchanted by the tidy colour palette: deep woods, light beiges and stone accents blend into a coherent whole. From the pine console with its gently visible grain to the discreetly concealed lighting fixtures, which are unobtrusive but subtly emphasise the texture of the materials. Thanks to this treatment, the interior does not overwhelm, but provides a sense of refuge, a natural backdrop for everyday rituals.

In the living room, which is open to the kitchen, a composition of stark white furniture is juxtaposed with a wall cladding of natural stone. Here, over morning coffee, the scene awakens with the sun streaming in through the large window. These are exactly the moments that inspired the designer: “I wanted to create a space in which one immediately feels at peace. An interior that is not a show catalogue, but a place to live – warm, natural and well-planned.”

The bedroom was arranged like a private retreat. An upholstered bed in a warm shade of beige surrounds a panel system, behind which soft, diffused lighting is concealed. Softly textured materials emphasise the intimacy of the interior, inviting you to relax. This is where you should lose yourself in reading in the evening, wrapped in soft light that soothes and relaxes.

The bathroom – inspired by the ritual of a small spa – combines natural wood with cool stone. The designer made sure that every detail supports relaxation: a wide stone washbasin, wooden towel shelves, a muted colour palette. In this interior, even the morning shower becomes a moment of respite, allowing you to pause in your daily rush.

For Marzena Kosiorowska-Kijowska, luxury is not about showy, golden ornaments. “Luxury is a space that allows you to live without chaos – beautiful, practical and ready to go right away” – emphasises the architect. And indeed, every nook and cranny of the flat is proof that thoughtful form is combined here with comfort, which grows out of the balance between minimalism and cosiness.

This interior is an invitation to celebrate simple gestures: a morning with coffee, an afternoon conversation, an evening of relaxation. The designed space does not shout, but subtly envelops – leaving you with the quiet charm of the Japanese aesthetic and the serenity of the north.
