Atelier Gusta in Poznań. A small boutique with great design

Atelier Gusta Jewellery is located in the Jeżyce district of Poznań. It is a place where you can buy designer jewellery by Agnieszka Jankowiak. The space is the result of a collaboration between Gusta Jewellery, Von Motz and architectural studio mode:lina.

It all started with a decaying grocery shop with imposing, tall semi-circular shop windows covered with advertisements for popular salads. Situated on the ground floor of a beautiful early 20th century building, both the premises and the building had been waiting for years to regain their former glory. The task of renovating the premises was entrusted to the designers from mode:lina architekci. This was a difficult challenge due to the many neglected areas and the very small size of the premises.

The aforementioned shop windows became a key element of the entire project. Three metres high and with half-circles at the end, they let in a lot of natural light. Replacing them kick-started the renovation, and their shape and colour lend character to the entire interior.

In this small space, it was possible to set up a kitchenette and a bathroom with storage function on a small mezzanine floor. Everything was cleverly hidden behind concealed doors to make the most of the main area.

The walls were covered with plaster mortar, mixed with pigments. Epoxy paint, used to finish concrete floors in garage halls, was used to finish the floor, which was matched with green and white flakes, referring to the shop windows. Gusta Jewellery opened its studio in the space thus created.

Pearls, silver, gold and natural stones add sparkle to the jewellery Agnieszka Jankowiak creates. The author of the Gusta brand – inspired by the disappearing craft and art of goldsmithing – pays homage to nature in her designs. She is constantly captivated by sunsets, the sound of the sea and the rawness of the fossil. Also integral to the development of her work is the art we can see in the Bauhaus collection, where irregular pearls balance on delicate silver threads, like a Lena Kowalewicz mobile.

The Atelier is the new space of the Gusta brand, where the goldsmith’s studio merges with the boutique. The Atelier also features small jewellery sculptural forms by designers the designer appreciates. The steel shelves are warmed by amber, polished by Emilia Kohu t- creator of ION ART – symbolic signs from Mokave and geometric forms by Magdalena Paszkiewicz.

The opening of the atelier was accompanied by the exhibition ‘Sparkle and Shine: The Chemical Wedding’ by VonMotz, during which the artist presented thirteen works. The focal point of the exhibition is Portal No. 01, a monumental sculpture of massive blocks of stone steps from the historic Saint Roch Bridge in Poznań. The foundation for the steps consists of six carved stones, each decorated with alchemical symbols, which form a massive gateway with a huge semi-circular mirror in the centre. This object in the space functions as a display for jewellery.
