On the corner of Krucza and Nowogrodzka Streets, in the place of a former tailor’s workshop, Barbara – a new restaurant with soul, created by the team responsible for Bibenda’s success – was established. The investors, visiting the abandoned interior, immediately felt that it had potential and the unique atmosphere of old Warsaw – the kind of atmosphere that is hard to find in modern buildings.
From the idea to Barbara – the story of its creation
From the very beginning, the aim was to create a place that, although connected to Bibenda, would operate on its own terms. It was not to be just another trendy place in town, but a venue with an individual character. After months of intensive work, Barbara was born. The new premises matured with each design decision, until it finally took shape – as if it had been embedded in the urban fabric for decades.
Barbara. New 24-hour venue – from breakfast to late-night cocktails
Barbara’s concept is for all-day operation. The space has been divided into two parts: a restaurant and a bar. Thanks to the premises’ favourable location – on a corner with a south-eastern exposure – the natural light changes its mood during the day. Mornings at Barbara are coffee and breakfast, evenings – atmospheric dinner and original cocktails.
Warsaw energy with a hint of Naples
Barbara combines a Warsaw vibe with a carefree Italian feel. The décor is a thoughtful combination of classic elements with a modern approach. Upon entering, guests find the centrepiece of the establishment – a round bar with a stone top and a decorative structure suspended above it. Also found here are original second-hand hockers, refined by Agata Zięba – the chef.
A secret restaurant hidden behind a curtain
Behind the curtain, to the right of the main bar, is the hidden restaurant area. The entrance leads through a wooden portal built into the luxe wall. The interior is filled with marble tables, recycled walnut chairs and a unique floor created from fragments of recycled stone, laid in a one-of-a-kind pattern.
Art and sentiment – mosaic by Magdalena Łapińska-Rozenbaum
In the central part of the restaurant, attention is drawn to a mosaic by Magdalena Łapińska-Rozenbaum. Composed of coloured glass, the decoration alludes to the aesthetics of communist Poland and depicts a silhouette of Barbara – cheerful and nostalgic, exactly like the place itself.
Barbara. A new place with character and soul
The interior of the premises is complemented by vintage lighting, reclaimed wall sconces and light curtains in the windows, which break the austerity of the walls. The whole conveys the atmosphere of Italian trattorias and urban elegance. Barbara’s project was both a creative and technical challenge. However, it was thanks to the cooperation of many specialists and investors that the place gained its unique character. The creators are convinced that the real story of Barbara has only just begun – now it will be created by the guests who decide to take a look here and feel this unique atmosphere.
