Ukrainian studio YODEZEEN has designed the elegant and ultra-modern Sierra House residence. The Kiev-based project stands out above all for its expressive form, the use of noble materials, and the cohesive integration of architecture with its surroundings.
Sierra House – a villa amidst the greenery
Sierra House is a private residence located in the Kyiv region. The 2,500 sq m building was built in 2023 and represents a design direction that combines modernity with nature inspirations. The design uses weathering steel, glass and basalt, which with the greenery surrounding the villa create a harmonious composition. The team of the YODEZEEN office, which specialises in residential architecture and interior design, is responsible for the project.

Form and material as carriers of ideas
The body of the house is based on simple, geometric shapes. Sharp lines and cubic forms emphasise the decisive character of the architecture. The materials used were carefully selected in terms of aesthetics and technology. Basalt gives the walls a raw, slightly dark character, weathering steel introduces an industrial feel, while glass and wood soften the whole and bring light into the interiors. The main design principles were based on looking for unobvious juxtapositions and creating emotionally charged spaces.
Functional layout and relationship to the landscape
The design of the villa was laid out over three levels. The underground section houses the technical facilities and staff spaces. The ground floor contains the living area with living room, dining room and kitchen. The upper floor has a night function and houses the bedrooms. The house is designed to integrate intensively with the surroundings. The terraces surrounding the block allow for outdoor relaxation and admire the surrounding landscape.

Interiors of Sierra House
Organic materials and individually designed furnishings dominate the interiors of the residence. Many of the solutions were custom-made, including furniture, cladding and lighting systems. Particular attention was paid to veneers and how they were put together. The materials used here include walnut, grey marble and natural stone. One of the standout rooms is the wine room with a fragment of raw rock and thoughtful lighting. The designers emphasise that they were keen to create a place that evokes emotion and encourages people to return. Both the living room with its basalt wall and the kitchen finished in warm wood make an impression. This is complemented by modern building management systems and a well-thought-out organisation of the space.
Architecture with ambition and character
Sierra House is an example of architecture that boldly utilizes the potential of materials and forms. The project was completed in a short timeframe, yet it demonstrated meticulous attention to detail and consistent execution of the concept. The residence reflects the approach of the YODEZEEN studio, which specializes in projects with a distinctly individual character.
