It’s a competition that changes cities. Until the end of October, entries can be sent in the Geberit competition ‘Bathroom Design 2025’. This year, designers are tasked with designing a public toilet in Szczecin. The historic location is a challenge, but also a chance to showcase their skills.
The competition has been bringing the problem of the shortage of public toilets in Polish cities to light for several years and turning the discussion into concrete solutions. The Geberit initiative has become a recognisable and respected community project; more than 300 public toilet concepts are submitted to the organisers every year. The most important distinguishing feature of the competition is its consistency – the winning projects are often put into practice, becoming part of the urban fabric and adding new functions that really improve the living comfort of residents. In practice, the effects of this strategy can be seen, for example, in the Beach Pavilion in Warsaw, the toilets in Kazimierz Dolny or at the Mogilskie Roundabout in Krakow.

A toilet for Szczecin!
The theme of this year’s edition is the conceptual design of a public toilet in the surroundings of Jasne Błonia in Szczecin, a place of significant historical and social importance; this location is a challenging field for designers, while also providing a space to showcase their talent.
Jasne Błonia im Jana Pawła II in Szczecin is not only a popular place for walks and events, but also a space under conservation protection due to its unique urban and natural character. Located next to the historic City Hall building, it is a symbolic meeting point of nature, history and open public space. When designing in this context, participants must skilfully integrate modern architecture into the city’s valuable cultural and landscape heritage.
Participants in the competition are to design a bathroom with this site in mind:

Who can take part and what can be gained?
The competition is open to architecture students and graduates. Participation can be a strong point in the portfolio of young designers, as the competition already has a long-standing tradition.
The organisers have earmarked a prize pool with a total value of PLN 50,000, including a Grand Prix of PLN 30,000. Special prizes will also be awarded, as well as a paid, month-long internship in an architectural office, which will benefit the winners of the Debut of the Year category. The prize for two participants in the Debut of the Year category is a month’s paid internship in a renowned architectural studio.
