This is a place where you can find Polish handicrafts. Perfect as a gift for yourself or someone close to you. The colourful concept store Słońce is located in the Jeżyce district of Poznań. In Słońce, the backdrop for items made by the hands of Polish artists is furniture and displays created in the spirit of “do it yourself”. What can be found here?
The space with native design was created by Mari Krystman, editor and founder of Słońca, and Kinga Dembińska, set designer and creator of the Floral Escape clothing brand. The joint plan was to bring together objects, clothes and accessories that are created unhurriedly and locally. Mari collects handicraft gems such as ceramics and natural cosmetics, while Kinga collects second-hand materials from which she makes jacket blanks with the Floral Escape label. And so new things are combined with those that have been given another life.
Furniture elements and displays, which you will find inside the Sun, have also been given a second chance. Kinga is also their author – her technical and staging experience helped her to conjure up tables, tables and stands based on MDF boards and cardboard tubes of fabric rolls. Her own design is also a large cobalt mirror cut with the help of a carpenter.
The starting point for refreshing the interior of the boutique, which has been at this location since spring 2022, was a motif taken from the Sun logo: a circle or semicircle in a shade of juicy orange. This paint-painted element appears on the walls – as a backdrop for a bookcase and a visual frame for a shelf – and on the furniture. In addition to orange, the palette is joined by bright pink, sunny yellow and cobalt, which the main table in the concept stor was painted in. The cobalt sections of the table legs, in turn, served as handicraft displays in the showcase.
In addition to the DIY furniture, you will find several models from the well-known Swedish chain. A small white desk with drawers serves as a counter, narrow bookcases display ceramics and prints by Polish illustrators, and a long white chest of drawers is a combination of several white-painted pine cabinets that have been decorated with a conduit motif detail – cobalt-painted wooden ball feet. The patent for this interior therefore turned out to be colour and recycling.
What can be bought in the Sun? Products include Leisure candles and vases, AUURA incense and AUURA coasters created with Malwina Konopacka, ceramics from Hadaki, Ceramics 36, colourful glasses from not.bad.studio and Star studio. However, it is worth hurrying, the prettiest ones disappear the fastest!
