Best diplomas of UAP students at an exhibition in Stary Browar in Poznań

The exhibition is open from 8 to 17 November. The best diplomas by students of the Magdalena Abakanowicz University of Arts in Poznań can be viewed in the spaces of Stary Browar, in the Słodownia Gallery. Entrance to the exhibition is free of charge.

This is the 44th edition of the exhibition. The works of 26 students will be presented. Their projects prove that art still uses a language that has the power to tell stories that have not yet been heard.

This year’s edition bears the slogan ‘Narrations’, which seems to capture the essence of the reception of the competition and the exhibition, where the public has the opportunity to get acquainted with a wide range of creative tales on a great variety of topics developed in various media,’ explains Prof. Maciej Kurak, Rector of the Magdalena Abakanowicz University of Arts in Poznań.

Diversity and spontaneity, but also wise reflection on the world, bring light and provide solutions capable of astonishing, induce reflection, provide a powerful experience or bring, through universal design, solutions conducive to a good life.

Part of the exhibition is the 44th Maria Dokowicz Competition for the Best UAP Diploma. The competition is the realisation of the will of Maria Dokowicz, a 1932 graduate of the Poznan university, who set up a fund to enable the most talented students to go on scholarship trips to Western European countries. The 11th Professor Alicja Kępińska Competition for the best theoretical thesis is also part of the event.

The choice of ‘Narrative’ as the slogan for the 2024 iteration of the Dokowicz Competition is no accident. It is related to the clear need to formulate stories in order to strengthen the discussion on the world around us in times of its strong transformations and redefinitions, also in relation to these most basic – seemingly – concepts and values. It is worth looking at the diploma projects presented at the exhibition from the perspective of how the reality of social life is changing. They can be seen as the voice of the young generation leaving the walls of the art academy today. It is in their hands that the challenge of constructing the world in the present and future lies,’ explains Mateusz Bieczyński, PhD, Professor at UAP, Curator of the exhibition of the 44th Maria Dokowicz Competition.
