The brownstone flat was designed by architects from Barker Architecture Office. It is an interior whose design is reminiscent of flats known from American films or TV series, but in a modern way.
The interior was designed for a family with ties to Seattle, which is why the colour palette is reminiscent of colours associated with the Pacific. Shades of green, blues, grey and white oak are intended to remind us of our hometown.
The New York flat was created by merging two smaller flats. The architects’ task was to blur the boundary between the two units, while creating private zones on different levels. The bedrooms were located on the garden side and the living area with the living room with fireplace on the front. The fireplace not only decorates the interior, but is also used in winter as an additional source of heat. Visual warmth, on the other hand, is provided by wood elements. Note the minimalist staircase sheltered by a glass wall. The toilet is completely different, with a wallpaper depicting a seaside scene.
White oak reappears in the kitchen, where the oak island is lined with terrazzo tiles. A wall of blue-green cabinets, with brushed copper inserts, is lined with a fancy soapstone work surface.
There are several large bedrooms in the flat. In the largest one, the deep blue-grey walls are brightened by a headboard in white oak slats and integrated bedside tables. Oak mouldings also appear in the nearby bathroom.
The architects at Barker Architecture Office have succeeded in creating an original interior, each corner of which tells a different story. There is a wealth of textures and colours, but when combined together they blend surprisingly well. Even strong elements such as the copper bathtub or wallpaper with themed scenes seem to be in the right place.
